Anyone have information on how long the average brake pads last. I have a 95 coupe with 28,000 miles and need rear brakes.
Thanks for any feedback.

I put Raybestoes Pro pads on my 85 2 years ago and still got plenty life in them after 20k miles...

My 95 has 23K & I'm down to 20% on the rears. I don't drive aggressively. Also had the same on my 95 Z-28, 23K & they were gone. Could get no explanation from the experts. Both cars fronts are/were at 80%.:drink

Thanks for the info guys. I feel a little better. Time to replace those brakes.

My 1996 requires front pads and the dealer indicates there are 2 types. I would guess the difference being a Grand Sport. I believe all 96s are 13" discs. The dealer's price seems steep. Any help with aftermarket manufacturers and part numbers would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Greg

I change my pads out about every 30-35K whether they need it or not. Usually there is still 1/4 to 1/3 pad left ( now that I'm not autocrossing ).

My rotors lasted 100k - even then there was some life left in them.

Make sure the wheels are torqued correctly to avoid rotor warping and premature brake wear.

Pads for 12 and 13" are the same. If the dealer is telling you that there are 2 different ones, they had better be compound differneces, and not size.

As for wear, I have 17 months on my rears, and they need to be replaced again. They were OEM ones that I installed at the end of last January. I do drive a lot, and in all kinds of weather. I think the traction control system is eating into the life of the rear pads. A friend of mine noticed the same thing on his Mercedes. The rear pads tended to go faster than expected mostly from his traction control system. (18" AMGs in the snow)

I am going to try the pads from Baer. I am getting the mid level (touring) pads all around. I will let you know if they have a different feel over the stock/OEM PBR pads.

You can get Performance Friction pads with Lifetime warranty from Autozone!
They don't make them for the 87 but they worked good on some other cars we put them on.
They have the shims on the back and the wear sensors to.
