I recently put new Baer slotted & drilled rotors on my '95. Mostly for the purpose of looks. And BTW, it looks great. My question is two fold. First, I'd like to upgrade the calipers to the GS calipers that say "Corvette" on them. Does anyone know where to get these, or are they stricktly a GM part? And what is the cost for a set?

Second question: I'd like to upgrade the brake system on my '86 with the hand-me-down brake parts from the '95, since there is nothing wrong with these parts. Is this possible to do? And what would I need?

For the most part it should all be the same between the '86 and '95 unless the '95 has the HD brakes. Even if it does all the parts should bolt right up.

The calipers should be available from Zip, Mid America or any of the parts places. I upgraded to C5 calipers and rotors and got them from Zip, they had the best prices by far at the time.

Actually, since the 86 has (had) 16" wheels, the bigger brakes won't fit unless you change rims to 17".

:duh My bad I forgot all about the 16"rims.

I do have the 13" rotors on the front of the '95 which would require upgrading to the larger rim for the '86. But do you think the 95's dual calipers would be a direct bolt-on to the 86. I know the front would not just due to the larger dia. rotor. But if I used the correct caliper carrier, is the bolt pattern and bolt size the same on the front & rear spindles?

Thanks for the replies.:)

$285.99...I think for the pair. I've been looking at these too.

What was the total cost and what did you have to do to upgrade from the C4 rotors and calipers (and what else was involved?) to the C5 stuff?

Calipers, Rotors, and pads were from Zip the total was $1005. The front caliper mounts I got from Mid America I think they were $24 each. The adapter bracket I got from Ed Salinas in AZ for $125. The rear adapter brackets I custom machined and cost me a 12 pack for use of the milling machine. New Goodridge brake lines and Speed Bleeders from VB&P $150. Misc metric bolts and nuts from Fastenall ... less than $50.

The fronts just bolted right up the rears took a bit of fabrication and measuring but went together pretty well. The only bad thing is I wasn't able to adapt the rear parking brake. The C5 uses a drum inside the rotor and the wheel bearing hub has a different bolt pattern.

As Hrtbeat mentioned, the fronts are not a direct bolt on. You need an adapter plate to mount them. I think Baer might sell them, they used to. The adapter Ed Salinas was making was for a C5 late C4 conversion only as far as I know, and Ed is getting out of his vette, I don't even know if he's doing any of this stuff anymore. 87 and earlier require a completely different set up for the conversion than 88 up.

Some of the early 16" wheels will fit over the 2 piston 13" brakes. The enkie 9 1/2" wheels are the ones, and you might need to file the fins on the top of the caliper. I've seen pictures of them and there is maybe an 1/8" clearance.
For the 87 and earlier cars you need a special caliper bracket or adapter bracket since the spindles changed in 88 and the 2 piston brakes were standard and they had 13" rotor brakes as an option.
The Grand Sport calipers are at Superior Chevrolet and The Last Detail, they have about the best prices I've seen.
Fact is if you have 17" wheels go for the C5 upgrade. Used C5 calipers are on ebay all the time. C5 rotors are cheaper and thicker. The grey C5 calipers are the same as the red Z06 calipers except for the color.

At some point I may upgrade to the C5 calipers. But for now, since I just put the new rotors on, I'll look to get the GS calipers and see about upgrading my 86 with the later C4 parts. Looks like the biggest expense now is to get the 17" wheels for the 86. Since this car is used for autocross, I have a problem with using spacers to adapt for the larger wheels.
