I’ve been doing some searching in these forums regarding build sheet locations. Is it true that only post 1967 Corvette's had the build sheet attached to the gasoline tank? Does this mean that pre-1967 had no build sheet attached to the car? My 1965 is original and I'd like to find the build sheet, if indeed one exists. Like everyone else in this forum, I like to find a dry, well preserved, entirely legible build sheet... oh.. it would be nice if it was easy to get to as well… ha.

Why do I think this is harder than simply pointing a flashlight through some cracks?

Sorry No build sheet on the gas tank of a 1965,Only on the 1967 midyear.

Pre-1967 build sheets are the Holy Grail of the Corvette world. But like the Holy Grail, they are totally unattainable. IH2LOSE is correct - build sheets were only affixed to the car starting in '67. Some people believe that the factory had copies of all the pre-'67 build sheets but nothing has ever been found. If these copies ever existed they were probably discarded long ago in an effort to reduce the volume of records GM was storing.

Build (or Manifest) Sheets prior to affixing to the top of the fuel tank in 1967 were often placed loosely in the interior underneath either the driver or passenger seats, and often became discarded during dealer or subsequent cleanup. If you're lucky, it may have been stuck up under a seat bottom spring. Lastly, make sure to check behind the passenger- (or driver) side kick panel below the instrument panel... I found one behind the passenger kick panel on a very early 1966 about 20 years ago.

They just had an interesting article in the Oct/Nov issue of Corvette Enthusiast. It seems some people have discovered build sheets for the 64/5/6 vetts. The article is "Finding that hidden documentation" on page 76. I can't wait to find the time to get into my 64 and see if it's there. Hope this turns out to be more then some old wives tale. Later....vetzs

Could you enlighten those of us who are not subscribers? A build sheet would be quite a find! :)

Thanks!

The article said that a build sheet might be found by removing the fresh air vent on the passenger side and, with the vent door open, reach up. There just might be a crumpled up piece of paper up there.

Don't count on it. Most of these cars have had repair after repair made and these build sheets were probably thrown away at one time or another.

But, it is certainly worth a look.

the article talked of removing the valve that allows fresh air into the car, (this is just behind the inlet grill). They say "the ball of paper was down in this area" directly behind the lower hindge in a well and may take some digging to find it.

Ive been reading all the comments about build sheets and there locations. The part about it might be in the passenger side vent or in my case the return for the factory air. Well it got me thinking, I've recently been getting my a/c back into working order and in the process I have found tons of sheded paper in the vents. I hadent given it to much thought until reading the posts and thinking about the type of paper I pulled out which could of been a build sheet. I mean why else would there of been so much shreaded paper in there. If someone had put it into that passenger vent it would of been sucked up right into the fan and the rest is history. Now I wish I would of saved those sheaded pieces to see if I could of made any since out them. Roland.

I've only heard of one mid-year build sheet turning up in a pre-1967 mid-year. Don Mullenoff in Livermore, CA, found one inside his '65 396 convertible earlier this year. He sent me a xerox of it. Sorry, I don't know how to make a post showing it.

I've never encountered such a sheet in any of the '63-6 mid-years I've owned or repaired. But I do keep looking.
