Smok'em Up Johnny

Smok'em up Johnny comes from the breakfast club. His father gave him a carton of cigarettes for Christmas, and said that quote. I really don't recommend doing a burnout with your C5, but if you can't stop thinking about it, then satisfy your curiosity. Although, there are some risks involved, is what I was saying. If you are going to race your C5, I've found that my best ET's have been leaving as little rubber as possible. Depending on your setup, trial and error works best.

good time ..someone else

...I was in Vegas once and I rented the Viper R/T 10.
Took it out to the main 4 lane express way, sufficiently away
from the wall.

...I didn't apply the brake but simultaneously floored it and dumped the clutch in perfect sinchrony. The car went forward
but also sideways, and I had to stop as there was too little
traction--this was not controlled enough to hold the straight line.
There was a CLOUD of burned rubber smoke.

4+3 Brake Stand

It's all in the heal and toe method!

Floor the Gas with your right heal, lightly hold the brake with your right toes, and dump the clutch!

Heal and toe is a great way to down shift while braking into a turn, keeps the rear tires from 'locking up' and throwing you off the road. (track, I mean track....)

I Burned a set of old tires of my 87, in front of old fraturnity brothers, held the stand for a minute and 15 seconds! No BS...

I melted the pavement!!! You could actually see the lines of tread in the asphault. Cloud enveloped the entire parking lot.

Nothing like a vette!

Might I add a C5 will do a very impressive burn out with the traction control off... but that's another story.

Wow

Remo: I guess I just have that deep, passionate, burning desire way down inside this clam, cool, collected computer engineer to lite 'em up ONE day. . . Never have and I've had my C5, first and only, since July. Car before that was a 2000 Grand AM GT (which I ended up totally tricking out with Zenetti rims, super charger kit, 1,200 watt stereo etc) I learned I was trying to make it more than what it ever could have been. . . so I got the Vette. Anyway. How we digress.

Evolution1980: Yeah, I saw that video on Labor Day and that's what brought about my question. That is just a bad day for that owner (and the insurance compnay).

Everyone: I know that I have the traction control button on the center console. I push it once and it ALL turns off. If I hold the button in for a few seconds it only turns off a partion of the "system". When is each appropriate? In other words, when would I want it totally off when would I like it partially on? Thx. I've read the book and watched the video but I must have been wearing my dunce cap that afternoon because it just didn't sink in.

"Competition Mode"

Ctfoodguy2000: Thx but what exactly is Competition Mode? What does the car do differently then if it (traction control) was all turned off or on?

I'm not trying to be funny here, but quite serious. This shoudl be explained in your owners manual. (I don't know for sure though...I don't own a C5).

I think there's a lot of people that would be surprised at what they can learn about cars simply by reading thier owners manual...

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. I read over it once when I first got the car but can't say I really studied it. I never was a good student - always hated to read. Guess I'll just read the manual again.
