Help me with my headlamps on my "88 coupe!

They were fine when I bought the car last month but I must have been fiddling around with the knob on to of the mechanism and now they fall down, don't come up completely, and sometimes jiggle back and forth.

Did I goof something up?

Most all of us have had this problem at one time or another. Most likely its the grease inside the motor. Over time it breaks down and turns to powder. The solution (sometimes) is to take the motor apart and clean out all the old grease / powder and replace it with three plastic bushings. If you do a search here for "headlight motors" you will get a ton of posts on the subject.

The repair kit can be picked up from Eckler's, Corvette America, Mid-America, ect. somebody actually found similar parts at Home Depot for really cheap.

If you open your hood before turning on the headlights they should roll over correctly. If not you can adjust them with the knobs. Try it in the daylight and watch the little lever that moves when you turn the knob, there is a point that it should be fully open. Once you know what you are looking at its much easier.

Thank you very much for getting back to me. I appreciate it.

Anything I should watch for when taking the motor apart and reinstalling it?

The screws that hold the two halves of the motor case are small (?1/4"?) it seems there were three per motor. Be carefull not to snap them trying to loosen them. A vise really helps when pressing the shaft out/in. Other than that is pretty much R & R.

This is a simple job and the article referenced by Stu is helpful. SO, why haven't I done the driver's side too?
