Here's the fiberglass styling model of the Corvette SS in the Lockheed wind tunnel in December, 1956:

And here are those body panels again, ten weeks later, attached to the Corvette SS "mule" chassis at Sebring, during practice two days before the race; this "mule" was very crude, including a firewall and rear bulkhead made of plywood. The driver's door panel is somewhere out on the course .

The weather was so fine this afternoon, I played hookey and went for a drive in the country.

Here is a pic of our '61. My dad bought it in '63 and raced it for years. I have had it for twenty and just raced it for most of those. I want to have more fun with it so we made it streetable. This is the way it looks today. It has a GM ZZ572 pump gas engine. It made 672hp stock, and since we dynoed it we have put on a few of our own parts that would put it up over 700hp.

Very nice looking 61. Love the color. What a history of photos of the car. It sure is great to be able to look at that car and see your Dad, and all the years of work that has gone into it.

That '61 is just plain :cool. I was at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals North in Kalamazoo 2 weeks ago and Chevy had a 572/620 on a stand. They run it every 2 hours for the folks to experience. It was awesome to say the least. It is hard to believe that you can buy a pump gas engine like that from Chevy. Your '61 must be an amazing experience.

Beautiful '59. Welcome to the CAC.

We judged a fuelie in your colors last year at the NCRS Indiana Regional. It attracted a lot of attention to say the least. Later we in the 1959 Registry were able to put the owner together with the original owner of the car. The only bad thing that came of that meeting was that the current owner found out that the car was born black. Even though this was a high scoring Top Flight car he painted it back to black then sold it at this year's Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction.

I would have left it alone. Love the white/blue combo.

Bob... I have to say that one of my favorite memories of CF06 in BG was the chance to finally ride in a Midyear... and not just ANY Midyear - but the GREATEST Midyear I've ever seen - 67HEAVEN!! Talk about sensory overload!! It's a good thing we couldn't carry on a conversation because I couldn't have kept up my end of it anyway. I was a ten year old all over again and experiencing those first feelings of awe that would eventually lead me here.

Thanks for the Corvette memory, my friend, and helping me fulfill a Corvette dream! :cool
