In this photo is an odd-shaped washer that I personally took off both ends of the front bumper in circa 1969-70. I removed the front bumpers then and never put them back until just today. I screwed the hardware back into the caged nuts on the bumpers when I removed them and they were still there. This piece was used in the outer bumper bracket area (in the front of the wheelwells).

Question: Was it used inboard of the bracket, in the following order starting from inside?
Bolt - lock washer - flat washer - odd shaped washer - bracket - fiberglass - bumper.
After 34-35 years I can't remember and it's not shown in the A.I.M., the Service Manual or any of the catalogues. :confused What is this piece called and why isn't anyone selling it? Was it an early '67 piece only?

John? :D

The washer looks like the one used underneath the brake springs post on a non disc brake car. I would say some one used the wrong stuff a long time ago. Use the AIM, it's correct.

Thanks. You've just twigged my memory. Fuelie was just here and said the same thing about the brake piece.

We bashed about a bit in those days (very long ago :D), and the original signal light panels were cracking around the outer brackets. I think one of us got the bright idea to spread the load with that washer. ;LOL

Shortly thereafter, I removed the front bumpers and shaved the signal light panels off completely.

Thanks Ken. They're out. Maybe I'll bronze them and hang them from the mirror.

I hope you marked the bumper brackets when you took them off.I shared this story allready
But when I first got my car I could never get my front bumpers alighned correct. They always sat too low in the center.

One day affter spending hours on the driveway with a bottle jack trying to bend them straight,my wife asked if the brackets could be on backwards? I removed them and sure enought they were on the wrong sides. So if the center looks too low you may have them on backwards.Good Luck

An old trick is to cut up an old inner tube to use to make cushions for the bumpers. This will prevent cracking and paint damage. Cut out squares and glue to the bumper's mounting brackets. After it dries, trim and cut out the bolt holes. Almost indetectable by judges!

67, does that mean that in this case, you found "Bubba" and he is YOU? Don't feel too bad, I've found him a few times myself when looking in the mirror to shave. And they say things get better as you grow older . . .:eyerole

Love your car, appreciate your effort in keeping us current on its progress.:beer

That's a great idea, Ken. I'll do it. Now if I could just find an inner tube. :D

I'll stop by the tire shop.

I was hoping to share the blame with some of my old friends, but yeah, it was probably me. Just call me Bubba. (I always wanted to be a Southern gentleman anyway. ;LOL )

I think you can find sheet rubber squares (about 6" x 6") at the plumbing supply store, they are used as universal gasket material.

A man who once wanted to know the meaning of life and why we are here spent his life and his fortune seeking a Tibetian guru who could tell him the answer. After years of searching, he was able to reach the guru and pose the most important question to him. After a deliberate pause, and in a low, almost inaudible voice, the guru spoke.

"My son, we are here to help other people. The meaning of life is that simple."

After a longer silence, and with some consternation, he also said, " . . . but I really don't know why the other people are here . . . . "

Seems like the answer to one question only precipitates another!

Go Figure!:L
