C3R Chevrolet Corvette Stingray project in the works

What you see above are renderings of the C3R Corvette, a retro-styled homage to the 1969 Corvette Stingray, but unlike many of the computer generated Corvette mock-ups we've seen in the past this one is expected to be built. While the C3R project is still in the early stages, its creators plan to use a modern C6 Chevrolet Corvette platform to help speed development.

The current C6 Corvette is noted for its supercar-matching performance, while its third-generation predecessor, the 1969 Corvette Stingray, gained fame for its wild styling and muscle-car appeal. Now, the chief designer behind the car, Christian Cyrulewski, is hoping to marry these two elements by creating his own interpretation of the car.

The C3R will debut at next year’s Woodward Cruise in Detroit, where Cyrulewski hails from, and will head to SEMA following the initial debut.
Cyrulewski is also working on a ‘427’ version of the C3R, which will attempt to incorporate the alternative hood and side pipes found on the 1969 427 Corvette. In keeping with the original 427 it would also use a 427 cubic-inch engine from Katech, the same company that produces the racing engines for the C5R and C63 cars.

Currently, the C3R project is in the tooling development stage, but more updates are coming as it progresses.

I so hope this is true. I'm diggin it! I wonder how far out till production? Thanks, Rob...

Suhweeeeeet! I totally dig it, especially in white;) - kinda reminds me of a certain 71 a guy I know sold:(. But just like all the rest of the cars like it, no way in heck I'll be able to afford it:eyerole. But I still like it:upthumbs!

Thanks, Rob, for posting!

I see a whole lot of C6 there, BUT it looks better than a regular C6. I'm also wondering how the '69 got in the picture since the first C3s were '68 models.

:)

Nice, but could use some improvements: like sharpening the tops of the curves. It looks smoooshy the way the old play matchbox cars were. ANd if this is retro, where is the chrome.. Some chrome on the rear bumper (bent piece of pipe) probably wouldn't add that much aerodynamic drag. At least it doesn't have a smiley face front grille like some other "retro" cars. ANd once again " Where do you mount the front license plate? "

Man, I have been thinking along these sames lines for the past couple months.

And yeah, would definitely need a bit more of the chrome. Especially in the back.

Having the underpinnings of a C6 would definitely be cool, but with the exception of the updated body style, this isn't that different than what another CAC'er did a few months back with the tube frame and the supercharged LS7. I can't recall what his username is and I can't find any of his threads...Grrrr :mad

What? Huh? Who? Bah...there were too many '68-year only parts in '68. Hahahah... :L

Looks pretty badass. Am I reading that correctly? These things are going to be in production?
By the designer/creator; not by GM. It's essentially a kit car.

I really love this design. It might make me buy a C6 even.

I think it needs smaller chrome mirrors like the Cobras ran in the 60's, and definitely chrome bumpers.
