Hi I am a new vette owner and am really excited I have an 86 coupe as the man I bought it from has owned it since 87 and is is bone stock unaltered. I would like to fit in on these conversations but I have no idea what an LT-1 or LT2 consists of would some one enlighten me and please don't laugh too loud. I have been building small block chevys my whole life and 400 hp is not that tough to get with a 4 bbl they should arrive galloping with fuel injection. Bring on the information I'm excited to be here it's taken me 65 years.

Welcome to :CAC

With a '86 what you know will do you well. Some had alum heads, some iron. Your carb is now looking forward, and the computer does a pretty good job of figuring out how much air its getting.

Save the Wave !

:w

Are you thinking a new motor or modifying the motor you have with the car? It is good to have you aboard here at CAC.

I am going to leave it alone it is a late model so it has the iron heads

I am leaving it alone at least until I have some time with it and see how much fun it is. I am hoping that I have so much fun I won't want to fool with it.

Do you have centerbolt valve covers? If you do they are aluminum heads. There are a lot of things to make L98's faster. If you want search Mad-Mic, he has pretty much done it all as in free mods, and what not for our cars.

I would suggest driving it for a while get use to it and learn all you can about it. Then when it starts to feel not so fast, look into doing the minor freebie mods to it.

After the effects of those wear off for you, look into minor mods that will give it some more pep.

Eventually you will have enough miles on it and perhaps you'll start thinking it's not as fast as you'd like, either spend some bucks for major mods or sell it and buy a later model that will be a bit faster.

Any way you do it, enjoy the ride, that's why we have them. :D

I remember

I can still remember the day the C4 was on display at the local chevy dealer. I can still see it in my mind with the front end open like a top fuel funny car I was sooooo excited. Corvette had finally made me more excited than when I saw my first 53 then the 58 then the 60 verts and the sharks looked good in some body else's driveway but the 84 started my heart beating and finally I am picking my 86 up today and life begins again...They are all beautiful and they are worth what ever you are wiling to pay for them. And worth every penny.
I guess that just about explains my view on this very fine part of ameican history

Your car has an L98 engine. (they came in 86-91 vettes)

The L98 is a gen 1 350 chevy, which makes it a good buy to modify, since the parts are generally cheaper than they are on the later generations...
