I notice the other nite when my headlights were up, on the inside/side of the headlight assemblys there is a black cap like 2 inches or so, that covers a hole, It looks like an adjusting screw of some sort, is it possible to let me know if there is a part number for that cap or what exactly the part is called, so I know what to ask for, the drivers side is missing that cap.

thanx

You need to get the whole trim piece on a 98. Get both left and right sides, they are not expensive. The original hole covers are no longer available. These are a newer design.

Pizzano, I know exactly the part you are talking about. The same thing happened to my driver's side headlight summer before last. I only noticed it one night when I put the headlights up and found there was this circle of light spilling out from the side.

I've been looking through my files to see if I saved my receipt from when I bought a replacement cap, and I'm afraid it may be long gone. Sorry, I could have given you a part number.

What I can tell you is that they are out there- what I did when this happened was just get on the phone to the Parts Departments in the various Chevrolet Dealerships in my area and describe what I was looking for. The first couple of them I spoke with indicated they didn't sell just the cap, that I would have to buy a whole new headlight assembly ($498.00). I finally found a dealership that knew what part I was describing and had it- cost for the little circular cap was $5.00

Hope this helps!

The 1997 (and 1998?) used a different size plug that is not serviced by GM any more. The bezel (with the larger plug) must be purchased. But in no case does the whole assembly have to be replaced. Just the bezel and plug. I think it is on the order of $20-$25.

Thanks Jim.
I guess it helps if I look at what year Pizzano's Corvette is before I go posting away. :crazy

they are made by "caplugs" buffalo ny and the size is BPF-2-1/8. try the company for a free sample. when you put them in make sure they snap into the groove in the cap and use black RTV to hold them in place

Thanx for the info folks, I measured the opening and it is 2 1/4", Ill check into the caplug place, otherwise the bezel is just a piece of plastic that wraps around the light, I didnt see that the other nite, looks like 4 screws hold the piece in.

thnx
