Transmission Go Boom!~!!:hb:hb:hb

Cruising to my sisters Christmas day rolling about 65 in 5th with the cruse engaged on US 63 in NE Missouri, started up a slight grade and BANG!~!!
No more 5th and 6th,It was so loud that I was looking in the rear view for parts hitting the pavement!:eek:eek:eek

NOT GOOD.............I think the Bull Gear Jumped the Heifer Gear!~!!

Nothing that a new output shaft,5-6 driven gear,5-6 drive gears,5-6 synchronizer,reverse gear,rev synchronizer, a few bearings and c clips wont fix!~!!:hb

Sorry to hear about your transmission woes.

Any idea why this happened?

After repairing your six-speed, please be sure to SAVE the WAVE! :w

Oh Junkie, that hurts just looking at the pictures. What caused it? Any idea? Do you know a good mechanic who can fix it? ;LOL(Yea I know, Smart-arse)

GREAT Christmas present..........a rebuilt 6 speed!
Sounds like a winner to me, son :thumb

Yeah,Look at the first photo at the top of the splines,The C clip at that location was not seated properly and wore out the groove in the shaft then letting the 5-6 driven gear to slide for and aft on the shaft during acceleration and deceleration wearing out the splines on the shaft and in the gear!

Amazing how such a small piece which is not exactly in the correct position can cause major catastrophic failure many years and miles down the road!

Good luck with your repair!

After repairing your Tremec transmission, please be sure to SAVE the WAVE! :w

Yeah,I got 4 of the Area Vocational Technical Center's top students and 1 belligerent old bastard working on it!~!!:thumb

I've taken lots of photos,I'm working on it at the Vo-Tech School I graduated from in 1972!~!:thumb:thumb

The Auto Technologies Instructor and I graduated in the first class the school ever produced after being built, and are Old Gear Head Buddy's from go kart racing days before that!~!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

Yeah Mac,It seems so.
I could have done this work at home,But I was ask to do it at the school and I wanted to help young technicians learn.
Between this, dead beat customers and incompetent parts people,It's just almost to the point that I don't give a Rats Pa-toot if everybody has to ride a bicycle!~!!:eyerole:eyerole:eyerole

What a pain in the butt!

Maybe someone saw the person who hit your Vette. Might need to do some detective work.

No Wave Saving for the time being!
