Here is a question I have never seen addressed.
How long (years/miles) can I expect to get from my Year 2000 stock exhaust ??;shrug
The reason I ask is that I often see almost new (used) systems for sale. They were possibly taken off to upgrade to an after market performance system. Some are new!
They can be bought pretty cheaply and may make good spares.

BUT If the stock system lasts for MANY years it may be a waste of time.
Any thoughts???

There are so many out there because of all the performance catbacks installed on C5's. I've got 2 stock catbacks that someone can have if they'd haul them off. I put Corsa Indys on both C5's that I've had!

I can speak from experience that factory stainless steel exhausts last quite a long time. How long? I can't say since I've yet to see any notable wear on any of mine. I bought a brand new Z24 in 1990 with SS exhaust and drove it through 14 Washington DC winters, complete with salted roads, and when I sold the car to my neighbor with 180k+ miles on it after 14 years the exhaust was still perfect. My neighbor sold it last year with 200K+ and it's still fine. Same goes for my 95 Monte Carlo with 148k on it - exhaust looks perfect.

I changed my exhaust for three reasons: performance, looks, and sound. I swapped my stock exhaust for a Bassani X-pipe and Corsa Touring with Tiger Shark tips.

The best-kept secret in mildly modified LS1s is a "take-off" Z06 titanium exhaust. They flow 18% more than the base exhaust, sound alot better and weigh 23 lbs less. I've seen them on eBay for cheap. And...it's a bolt-on.

Thanks for the response.
Hib..... which Z06 titanium exhaust fits a 2000? is it any C5/Z06?

Hib:

I assume you are referring to the section from just before the rear axle back, and not the entire Z06 exhaust system? Or are you referring from the manifolds back?

Thanks,

Mark

Hib - Thanks for responding.
It's your call. you mentioned the Z06 system how much of it fits the stock 2000 coupe and what years fit to get the results you mentioned??

What I have seen is the Z06 exhaust from the "over axle pipes" back. I have been considering this as an upgrade for my 01. And most of the weight savings is apparently in the mufflers themselves. I believe that any C5 Z06 exhaust will fit any C5.

I HIGHLY recommend the Z06 TIs. I replaced my stock exhaust on my 03 Anni. There is a sound difference and a slight performance difference. I like the looks of the exhaust. Also the TIs will last forever!! If you are looking for a lot of noise, however, these dont give it. They sound great all the time....WOT, they are a big difference....cruising....no sound at all! They are bolt on, easy to change, but you either have to have a rack, or pay somebody to do it. I paid my local shop $40....it was well worth it. I paid $300 for the exhausts......they needed cleaning up, but with a little Never Dull polish and some elbow grease they looked like new!

I would be interested in several of the stock exhaust tips off those stock systems. It seems someone stole several off my car.

Please let me know if you have any available and the price. Send email to CWRailman@cox.net

Thanks,
Denny

Hey captras, thanks for the feedback. Where did you find your Z06 system, e-bay? Why did you go to an installer, couldn't get the car high enough on jack stands to make the switch?

:wI have the same ones on mine also (Corsa Indy Pace Car) and I really like the sound, got a question though. What happens if I would like to change the tips a few years down the line? Is this a easy thing to do? Also, are you attending the Joplin Midwest Vette shindig this year? SC:WTT:thumb

Actually, I found mine from a member that advertised on the Forum. But you can find them on EBAY, and also try Craigslist....I have seen them listed there fairly often.....Good Luck
