I am considering putting C5 wheels (Front: 8.5 X 17; Rear: 8.5 X 18) on my 1985 (9.5 X 16). I plan to use 3/4" adapters (not spacers) to correct for differences in offset/backspacing. As long as I closely match offset, backspacing, and overall wheel/tire diameter (to include tires), will I be OK? Thoughts and experiences appreciated. Thanks!

I have C5 wheels (Y2Ks) on my 93, no adaptors or spacers were needed. There is a slight difference in the speedo reading due to the larger rear wheel (C5 = 18" vs 17" for the stock C4). I can correct for this by using a 35 profile tire (as opposed to the 40 stock). You'll be going from a stock 16" wheel to 18" and will most likely need to reporgram the speedo and odometer.

I have Y2Ks on my 95 Vert, 18x10.5 rear and 17x9.5 front, direct bolt on, no spacers,

'85 w/C-5 wheels

I have an '85 with 2004 staggered (P245/45ZR17 front & 275/40ZR18 rear) and it looks knockout. The speedo is wrong now and I need adapters to correct the off-set. This wheel swap completely changed how I feel about my car. The original wheels are great but they date the car which is not neccessarily a bad thing . . . (blah, blah) Okay, I hate the old wheels and think they suck.

I still have the old wheels. Do you need a set (4) of '85 8.5 inch wheels?

1985 wheels

Well, kind of an intersting story - the boiled down version:

I bought a brand new set of BFG g-force sports (P255/50ZR16) for the original rims and they are still mounted and road balanced on the rims. They had a hard time balancing them and I thought one of the rear rims was bent so I jumped at the chance to buy these C-5 wheels/tires. The wheel repair guy (D&H Wheel Repair) says none of the rims are bent but I did not care because I wanted the new wheels.

So now, I have 4-16 inch original 1985 wheels with the above descibed tires mounted. The tires have about 75 miles on them, the little zit thingys are still there.

So, say $600 (plus shipping, don't know where you live) for the tires and wheels. If you don't need the tires then my original plan was to sell the wheels and go do battle with Discount Tire for a refund. Are the wheels alone worth $200 to you?

Leme know because I am going to have him dismount the tires tomarro and get locked and loaded for the tire store. Also, I will take pictures of the tires and/or wheels for you so you know exactly what they look like . . . will do that tomarro and post then.
