Koroba,

The last 6 digits of the VIN is the production sequence number. 000001 is the first car built etc...

Each of the 17 spaces on the VIN has a specific definition. The 7th from the right for example is the plant the vehicle was produce at and the 8th is the year of the vehicle ( 1980 is A etc... 2000 is Y and then they started again on the numbers)

Hope this helps

C4Fan, thank you very much!

I've had my DSOM since March and the only problem has been the fuel gauge problem. I can live with that. Just turned 5000 miles this weekend and that includes driving it home from Ohio where I bought it. Dealers in Vegas are gouging big time here.

no problems

I have 7500 miles on my c6, that I got in February. I just completed a 3400 mile round trip from Sacramento, Ca to San Antonio, Tx. I have had no problems at all. I love this car.

There are some posts here documenting peoblems with thier new C-6. I guess it was bound to happen. Still sad to see it happen so quickly. My take Make a model. make it right and leave it alone. Seems like evry year they have to "fix" or change something. Same old quality that GM is famous for. I don't think this employee pricing will help much. Just another gimmick.

wwr
Not necessarily.

Let's face facts here:

1. This is the first model year of a new generation.

2. This same thing happens to ALL automotive manufacturers bringing a totally new car to market. It happens to Mercedes, Porsche, everyone...

3. As far as fixing or changing something, if you've ever worked in a field that requires "research and development", "quality control", "production scheduling", etc., you would know that eventually, the "research and development" period needs to be frozen so that a viable product can be brought to market. Eventually, that freeze is lifted, and R&D begins again, and preparations are made for the next model or next generation of product based upon that extended R&D time. Fixes and improvements come on later models as dictated by the increased R&D and testing. If companies spent all their time conducting R&D, and kept putting off production, they'd go under real quick.

I'm not saying this is the situation with Corvette, but, seriously, let's be realistic here....

4. Last time I checked, and please do correct me if I'm wrong, but Corvettes are NOT eligible for the Employee discount, so your last point is a moot point.

Thanks Rob...... I feel much better. Mine was built after. Whew :)

No problems

No problems with my C6, but several dealers here do not even know how much air to put in the tires.

<scratching head> Isn't there a sticker on the inside of the door indicating various weights, tire sizes and correct pressures for the tires? What about the owner's manual? :crazy

FWIW, as a frequent visitor to Japan, I see this. The Japanese carmakers have had the luxury of introducing their models in Japan and therefore working out any bugs before bringing them to our shores. :w

That is VERY interesting - something I had never considered before :m

Interesting, but consider this: The Japanese consumer has way less of a sense of humor for crappy cars than we do. somehow I don't think Japan is a beta site for US models.

So if a Chevy dealership tells you that they have technicians qualified to work on Corvettes then how do you verify this as true? Are they certified throught GM and GM can tell you? How bout a website?

The left fuel sending unit failed within 500ft after buying the car (my vin is in the mid 18000 range). I had it replaced last week with the updated part and so far so good. This is the only major problem I have had in 3000 miles. There are some smaller issues but nothing in the break down catagory.

After waiting many months my new corvette convertible finally arrived. It was great for five days. Then it left me sit in front of a crowded restautant and spend the next 10 days at the dealer. I got it back for another four days before it left me sit again. It's been back at the dealers for two days now. They replaced two sensorys the first time and they are replacing the trunk sensory this time. I don't think they have any idea what wrong. The battery fine it just doesn't start. When they get tired of working on it they take the battery terminals off and touch them together it resets and they sent me home with it. Any ideas.

Ha!
You dont even want me to go into my problems. But I've had the absolute worst luck since I was born so I have come to expect it. The major issue is I use 2 quarts of oil every 500 miles. I'm fighting with the dealer right now to have somebody fix it before I yank the motor myself and build me a stroker.

I had a similiar issue with my brand new Mustang. Valve train was shot in 300 miles. I was sick of Ford service, they actually scratched my car on a few occasions, so I took it back and built a 700 horse motor for it myself. I'm used to this kind of thing. God just hates me.

On a $50k car tho I am inclined to make them fix their hunk. Its not like I have another 10 grand lying around to build a motor with.

2 words: "lemon law" Let GM find out what's wrong with the car on their own time. Tell them to take it back citing your states' lemon laws. You shouldn't have to pay for a car you can't use. The dealer doesn't sound too motivated - help them out. Find out how to comply with local lemon laws and start the process. You will either get your money back or your car fixed in a hurry. Remember that nice guys or patient guys lose in cases like this.

Actually Ive found similiar problems. The women that I was paying, for the oil change/1st maintenance check, at chevy dealership had my fob. She said, "Wheres the key? It's not on the keychain." She looked totally lost. I let her check on the ground, etc for awhile, just for the entertainment value, LOL Then I had to explain to "her" its keyless entry on the 2005 corvettes. And what was scary about that was she wasnt even blonde. /: Plus they didnt check the air pressure in my tires as they were suppose to. I had to adjust the air myself.
ps. By the way they need to look at the sticker on the door frame. Thats where it should tell you. Im not sure if you change tires to different ones from factory, if they update this or not.
