C6 top still makes noise

I must have done something wrong w/my e clip install. The roof creaks worse now!My roof has some silicone or whatever it is in between the rollers which made the clips very hard to press in there.

Well, I have about 500 miles of driving on rough Houston area highways and freeways with plenty of around 100 degree heat since I installed the e-clips. Not a single creak or pop. I consider this a very good "mod". Much easier than the long tube headers on the camaro, and almost as satisifing in some ways. I did not realize how much noise my ears were tuning out from the roof until it stopped.

I'm sorry it didn't work, but I notice you have a 2005 C6, and it is possible that you have other roof issues besides the one that the "E" clips fix. I suggest that you review all of the posts in this thread, and well as the posts in the thread about Roof Noise in the C6 General Information forum. I would also email "c4-c5 specialist" who has added several posts to this thread and perhaps he can help you. Don't give up.

No sorry,I forgot to update.I have a 2008 1LT MZ6 Z51 now w/the painted top.

UPDATE:MY INFO IS UPDATED!:upthumbs

Here's everything on the "E" clip and Astroglide procedures:

Astroglide: Read Posts #12 & 15 above.

"E" clips: (1) make sure that the "E" clips are 5/32", and not another size, which are often mixed in the bins as they were at my Lowe's. There is a link to a photo of the "E" clips at Post #37. Buy two pairs, it's easy to drop and lose one. (2) Review the excellent installation photo from Jason at Post #48, and review the explanation at Post #35. (3) My explanations are at Posts #49 & 50. (4) You will need a flashlight and a pair of needle-nosed pliers. (5) Take your top off and put it in the holding clips. (6) From behind each car seat, you can reach each roller and pin set quite easily. Seat the "E" clips initially with your fingers, and finish seating them with the needle-nosed pliers. Before you do any of this, read c4c5's post at Post #55 and make your own decision. If you have an '05 or '06 with other possible issues, you probably better read all of the Posts.

Then put your top on and go check it out!

Best of luck to all, Rick And :w Remember to Always Wave!
Update: it has been over a month with four 90+ degree days in a row; bumpy roads; weekend drives and NO NOISE. The "E" clips worked for my 2008. Seems a waste to not have GM talk to the dealers about this fix. It may not work 100% of the time but at least it could be a cheap starting point.

Clear top noise

You can tell by this that i am new to this site. Glad its here.
I take it that the dealer cannot do anything about this?
At first i thought that the top was not totally secure.
I think its a function of the window not going all the way up when it automatically drops down, when you open the door, and then goes back up. Sometimes i can put the window down and up to silence this problem.

I do not think the dealers recognize the fix here associated with the "E" clips. That is why I made the comment for GM to belly up and send out a tech bulletin.
I will say this, after getting my Z51 in March, and listening to the top "talk" to me on warm days, this fix described (with pictures) here in this forum.

Bottom line for me:
"E" clips: $1.49
Time to installed: 15 minutes
NO NOISE SINCE: priceless

You might need to re-index the windows - if memory serves: put the window all the way down, then all the way up and hold the switch for 3 seconds. Release the switch then hold it up for 3 seconds again.

Thanks.
Its only 3 months old and just started doing this.

08's have this problem too!! - mine is fine so far - I did hear the re-indexing windows is the solution most of the time

Did you use any lubrication when you installed the E-clips? I used some wheel bearing grease on mine at the same time and no more noise. Lubed it real good all over the rollers.

I performed the re-index deal and the problem has almost totally disappeared.
Thanks!

Atomic Orange is Bursting with Sound!

Mine creaks, pops, and squeeks! :mad

I haven't gone to the dealer yet - just can't find the time. However, I'm not aware of any recalls for this problem.

I did try the fix with the e-clip but it hasn't done any good. I found the only thing that works is driving with the latch open.

My C4 and C5 never had this trouble with the top - what is so different with the C6 top?

If I only knew how annoying this top would be - I would have owned my first convertible.

GM has tried two different fixes so far due to complaints. The first involves immobilizing the roller with a pin and then epoxy to keep it from moving. Experience has been mixed but most with this fix have had the noise reoccur in 3-6 months. Second fix is a redesign of the latch assembly that eliminates the roller / striker plate contact. BG said these would be available through dealers but I have yet to hear of anyone getting them installed or for that matter, even finding them at the dealers. The E-clip plus some good lube is a cheap way to solve the problem until GM gets the permanent fix done. Shouldn't pose any issues with the top or warranty and can be removed as easily as installed if desired. 5000 miles on mine and still no noise! Silence is golden :thumb

Just got this in my email:

Dear Corvette Owner,

On behalf of General Motors and the Corvette Team, I am sorry you are experiencing noises with your roof panel latches. We take great pride in producing the best sports car in the world and we regret your having experienced this aggravation. A service bulletin, number 08-08-67-013 was recently released which address this concern. A new latch handle and lubrication has been introduced that will greatly reduce handle rattle. The next time you are in the dealership you might consider discussing this with your dealership service person.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us through our website www.bowlinggreenassemblyplant.com

Sincerely,

Ron Halcomb

R. Halcomb is one of my GM contacts. He is actively looking for input regarding the C7 from C6 owners now. Use his email for your input. He will likely respond. This is where our voices can be heard.:thumb

So did I, and I have forwarded it to the general manager at my dealership, asked him to order the parts for my C6, and to email me when they arrive so I can set an appointment. I'll let you all know.....

Just picked up my 2009 car yesterday and no noise from the top. I have solid top. Do both the solid and glass top have the problem?
