C6 VS C6 ZO6

I know that the Z06 is a higher performance Corvette but for the price and overall life , is it really worth spening that much more for a Z06 and will the Z06 hold its value over a Standard C6?

My bet is that the C6, Z06 will hold its value better than a regular C6, but only time will tell. I would get a Z06, but had to settle for a Z51. Two kids in college.........

I suspect that most people who buy a Z06 are not all that concerned about holding value. At least that was not a major concern when I bought my C5 Z06. On the other hand, the high performance midyears are bringing the highest sales prices in today's market. That may also prove to be true with the current Z06.

I think if you are looking to buy a vette, you need to ask yourself what your main purpose is in doing so.

If you just want a new vette, then get a base model.
If you want max performance, then you pop for the Z06.
If you are looking for an investment, then don't buy a new one. Buy one that already has known value, such as the C2's, specifically, a '62-'67. Or wait for the "Blue Devil". (if and when)

Either way, in my eyes, it doesn't come down to money. It comes down to what your reason is for ownership. That's just my 2¢...

I wish i lived closer to you to see the '06 Z06 in action. I looked at a 2002 Z06 this morning..

It is white with convertable top, 32,000 miles and looks in good condition, what all do i need to know if i get an older Z06...

Like what to look for before buying? oh the asking price is $ 33,000

First thing I'd do is make sure you know what you are really looking at. NO, ZERO, ZIP, NADDA was there ever a factory produced C5 Z06 convertible

Z06 was a fixed roof coupe only. Someone may have added the brake scoups and wheels it that's what it looked like.

The History of Z06

Corvette’s legendary Zora Duntov first brought forth the concept of Z06. Though the Automobile Manufacturers Association had encouraged a ban on racing in 1957, which the GM chairman strongly supported, Duntov knew customers would continue to race Corvettes. In the midst of planning for Sting Ray production, Duntov suggested it was in Chevrolet’s best interest to continue with parts development to benefit racers. Thus, Duntov and colleagues created “RPO Z06” as a special performance equipment package.
The RPO Z06 package first offered on ’63 models included a 20 percent larger diameter front antiroll bar, a vacuum brake booster, a dual master cylinder, sintered-metallic brake linings within power-assisted Al-Fin drums cooled by front air scoops and vented backing plates, larger diameter shocks and springs nearly twice as stiff as standard.
These Corvettes came to be known as known as the “Big Tanks” because the package initially had a 36.5-gallon gas tank versus the standard 20-gallon for races such as Sebring and Daytona. At first, the package was only available on coupes because the oversized tank would not fit in the convertible.

The only engine option on the Z06 was the L84 327-cubic-inch displacement engine with Rochester fuel injection. With factory exhaust manifolds, required to run the cars in the Sports Car Club of America’s production classes, Chevrolet rated the engine at 360 horsepower.
Z06 cost an extra $1,818.45 over the base coupe price of $4,252. Chevrolet later lowered the package price and eliminated the big tank from the Z06 package though it remained available as a single add-on option for any coupe. Chevy then began offering Z06 on the convertible as well. Chevy produced 199 Z06s. Of those 199, many likely were used for play versus strictly racing as only 124 cars were delivered without radios and just 63 with the 36-gallon fuel tank - though the tank was a benefit only to long races.
Prior to the Z06 package in ’63, Chevrolet offered optional racing parts hidden in the order form that only the most perceptive customers could find.

then how much is this Corvette worth?

..again...you need to find out what it is first. But considering that someone is trying to pass off a Z06 that isn't, I'd walk away regardless of what it turns out to be. Obviously, it isn't an honest seller.

I stopped back by and talked to the salesman again and told him he was mis-representing the Corvette as a Z06 and he was surprised and told me he didn't know any different but still wants 33,000 for it.

Like Tom said, no one is upset about the car. They were just trying to help you keep from getting screwed by an apparent lying or dumbas$ salesman. The price is reasonable for either a 2002 Z06 or a convertible barring any mileage adjustments but high for a coupe. I personally would not give a lying salesman a second chance regardless.
