Funny--I recently received this e-mail from a salesman at Jim Butler Chevrolet (he was ****ed because I am buying from Kerbecks and I criticised his price gouging, so he had the following to say about me and his other customers:

"Have a nice day sounds like you don't know what you paid for it jerk off I

That is fantastic representation of a dealership as a corporate entity. Not surprised because (1) it is Saint Louis and (2) it is someone who sounds bitter about their profession.

z06 convertable

This may be relevant.... there was a report of a c5 z06 convertable on another forum. It was the consensus that the car was a conversion produced from a wrecked Z06. It looked good, but it was worthless junk. There were also some title issues with the car.

The guy that was trying to sell it on the forum got roasted.

There were a couple tuners turning out C5 Z06s that used all the right pieces (as I remember one of the tuners was north of the border, and had certain relationships with GM). They were the real deal in every respect - except they weren't assembled at BG. They started with brand new C5s and brand new ZO6 pieces. I have seen a couple of them here in AZ at Vette get-togethers. I'd sure take one.

That will be a lot tougher to do with the extensive differences on the C6 vs C6 ZO6 - starting with a different frame.

ZO6 buyers: what was your reason?

I know that the Z06 is a higher performance Corvette but for the price and overall life , is it really worth spening that much more for a Z06 and will the Z06 hold its value over a Standard C6?

Well, my two cents here don't have much to do with resale value so much as the philosophical reasons for buying a ZO6 in the first place. As a new base model C6 owner, my initial reaction was: "holy crap, this car is wickedly fast!" The base C6 is hard to drive responsibly on public roads to begin with...and there's no way to legally open it up and let the car do what it really wants to. In fact, gears four through six are completely superfluous unless you're on the wide-open interstate (or are worried about your mpg). So, there is no reason that I can see to buy a ZO6 unless you intend to use it as a full-time track car. To use it as a daliy driver is like buying an atom bomb to go deer hunting.

I suppose some guys just like knowing they have the biggest gun on the road, but for those of you on the fence trying to decide, drive the base C6 first and then see if you still feel the need for more than 400 HP! Those ZO6 side scoops are cool, but are you willing to pay $25,000 to get them? ;-)

Hey, not a bad idea! Not only will you for surely kill it, but you'll cook it and have it ready to eat all in the same shot!

The easiest retort to your 'philisophical' question is to simply say "...because I can."
If we didn't have cars with capabilities of the Z06 because they were deemed (by whom???) unneccessary for daily commuting, then why have cars with such abilities as even the base C6? Allowing that logic to continue, why not just limit all our cars to a "safe" speed limit of say 85mph and 100hp? Blah blah blah blah blah :L

I guess I would rhetorically ask you in return, "Why do you have a C6 if it's more than you'll ever use?" Because you like 'em? Well, some people like 'em even faster I guess! I would think that any answer you can give to that question could also be the same answer given by a Z06 owner.

Sure, I buy that argument up to a point. Of course, folks should buy whatever makes them happy, but speaking strictly for myself, the LS2 engine gets me by just fine. The ZO6 strikes me as the same kind of car as a Viper: awesome to behold, but impractical for all but the most serious racing enthusiasts.
