I am thinking of painting my calipers, (bright red of course :mad), and was wondering if anyone who has done it had trouble painting around the "Corvette" lettering. I have painted a previous caliper set on an Allante using a G2 brand kit and they came out like factory. There wasn't any lettering to paint around so it was relatively easy.
Your thoughts, please.

Keep em' rollin' :W

You don't need to mask around the Corvette lettering. I painted the whole caliper then took an old undershirt and stretched it tight over my index finger, dipped it in thinner and just wiped the paint off the letters.

I didnt use paint thinner. I just let the paint dry then took a flat razor blade and gently scraped the paint off. The Corvette lettering is polished (sort of) so the paint doesnt stick very well to it anyway.

I took this advice from a handful of others that have painted their calipers and it worked great.

I believe that there is a How To on the forum for painting calipers; search for it. The recommendation is to put chap stick on the letters, then the paint comes off easily. I hope to do mine in May before CF 09.

After I bought my 04, I decided I wanted to paint the brake calipers on my Camaro to match the red ones on the Vette.

I bought a "caliper painting" kit from the Eastwood Company and it worked great. The paint was a two-part process of paint and hardener so it might be some kind of epoxy. Whatever it is, it's realliy durable. I did that paint work four years ago, and each time I wash the brakes, the paint looks new. No chips. Nasty soaps or brake clean do not remove it.

Eastwood's brake paint kit is good stuff, IMO.:thumb

Caliper painting

Thank you all for the input and I am glad to hear the idea about the Chapstick. I had thought of using Vaseline on a Q-Tip to coat the letters and accomplish the same thing. I'll keep you all posted when I get the job done which may take some time to get to.

I'm going to try this product, Thank-you.:thumb:thumb

I painted my calipers last Spring with Ford Red engine paint.

Worked the nuts and lasts a long time.

The 'thinner' trick works peachy on the letters.

Do you possible have a web site for this, I must not be looking it up right or something.

Thanks,

Thank you very much; this is what I will use it appears that everything you need is in the kit. How did you clean off or keep from painting the CORVETTE letters on the caliber? Thought about coating the letters with vasoline ;help or something but that may get on the calibers; looks like pretty teedious work to mask them off ;shrug

Thanks again,
Bill :w

I'll probably use the thinner or razor when I do it. I'm going to start on it next week, I'll let you know. I'm in a local car show here in Galax Va. on May 23, and I want it done by then.:thumb:thumb:thumb

Thanks do keep me posted; that way if you screw up maybe I won't have too ;LOL

Looks great, but my hope was to clean them as well as paint the calibers without taking them off the vehicle. Do you think this would be possible; I was going to brush the paint on and maybe do @ least two coats maybe even three. By the way aswesome pictures as well as the step by step instructions; my hats off to you! I just hate to have to mess with the brakes and of course then have to bleed the breaks just for this, what do ya think?

Thanks,
Bill

Did you follow the link I posted? It explains how I did just what you are asking.

Yes I did, as I read you left the brake line hooked up but how did you get the pistions in the calibers backed :confused off enough to get them loose from the rotors? Did they just slip off or did you have to force them back some and push the fluid through the master cyllinder; I guess if they were in the relaxed position them should come right off, but didn't know for sure? Thought this may be an issue but maybe not.

The brake pads and calipers just slide right off the rotors. I made sure that I kept the brake pads associated with each wheel at the same exact location so that everything went back together without any issues. If you get the pads mixed up, you will have issues.

Got it, actually mine was painted when I got the car and still looks great. I was going to do this to my wifes GP.

Thanks for the great instructions and details that will help me when I get ready to do her car :thumb Procedures should be about the same I would think ;shrug
