Proud poppa to a beautiful 1988 Callaway Corvette
Just thought I would pass along a few more pictures of the 1988 Callaway for sale in Houston, Tx for anyone who might be interested (if someone wouldn't mind hosting the pics). The gentleman selling the car is representing it for a friend who is the original owner. Appears to be a well optioned car and very clean too. Click here to see the autotrader ad.

Enjoy,
Justin

Well guys, I just got back from Houston, Tx. If anyone would like to know more about the B2K, please PM and I would be happy to share my novice opinion on the overall condition of the car. Hope everyone is doing well. Take care.

Justin - more importantly, did you buy it???

Unfortunately, no I didn't buy it...*sigh*:cry I had high hopes for this one, but she didn't turn out to be quite what was expected, so the search continues.

Several relatively minor issues made me reluctant to go through with the purchase of the car. While all of them could be taken care of, the negotiated price of $27K plus shipping (reserve is currently down to $26K on eBay) would have put me a little over the mark to have any of those things taken care of.

*Please note that this is a nice car. I do not mean to reflect negatively on the car or the seller, but only to aid potential buyers of this car who have not had the luxury of seeing it in person.

For starters, the paint was in pretty decent shape, but was covered in fine scratches (seems to be a typical thing with black cars... my 95 had the same thing), and didn't appear to have been taken care of like one would expect from a car kept in a climate controlled garage by a wealthy owner. Secondly, the lone picture you have of a Dymag attached to this thread depicts the only wheel not in need of refinishing (again, another common and minor thing). Next, the intake had some of the "crinkle coat" missing and had been replaced with what appeared to be flat black spray paint. The intercoolers also had many small pebbles stuck between the fins. How they got there, I don't know. Idle was slightly "lumpy" and that scared me a little, but knowing what I know now, it is very common and can be remedied with little effort (perhaps a leaky injector or maybe an IAC problem). Finally, I noticed some rust on some of the interior screws of the passenger's side door panel.

I know all of those problems were minor, but I don't make a great deal of money and I don't like to have problems sit and add up with no relief in sight.

Now, the kicker... The car had no upgrades! Yes, I'll admit that stock power output would have been more than enough for a 23y.o., but how could I say no to a car making more power at the wheels than a stock one does at the crank:W!

Some positives:

1.) interior was in overall very nice condition.
2.) turbos seemed to be responsive (the driver didn't really lay into it, though:cry. That might have sold me if he did;))

3.) Overdrive seemed to be functioning (could feel it engage when cruising and kick out when any small amount of pedal was applied)

Hope this helps any prospective buyers. If anyone needs me to clarify further or would like some additional info, please feel free to send a PM and I will get back with you shortly.

i drove the car, it is a nice car. I may make an offer on it, but I should add two things; 1; the AC does not work, and 2; the stereo had a short in the ps speaker that seemed intermittent.

The paint swirls are an issue also; I am not sure if that is too much buffing already or if it could be buffed out. oh, and there is a discolored section in the dash, as if someone had something glued down there. NOt sure if that could be fixed easily or not.

The car did not pull quite as hard as my friend's 88, but it seemed to run smoothly enough.

The interior and rubber do seem very nice as if indeed climate controlled.

Anyway, as I may try to make an offer, I thought I would share some things I noticed against anyone who may also be thinking about it.
