From yesterday's test session:

2008 Coupe, 3LT, Z51, man. trans.

with Callaway Honker Cold Air Induction installed. Otherwise stock.
Used drag radials.
279 miles on odometer at time of run.

11.562 sec @ 118.82 mph

I think this is sufficient to put this run at the top of the "bolt-ons only" list.

Both at the top, are Callaway Cars

Here is a list of other C6's from another poular Corvette performance/Tech website forum:

Copied from another thread earlier today:

We've been getting several inquiries about the validity of the performance data since I posted the results of our test session yesterday at the dragstrip. Callers are questioning the 0.3 - 0.4 sec improvement from Honker installation only. I thought I should clarify how Callaway arrives at the data we publish.

Callaway engineers have a battery of performance measurement processes available to them to quantify the performance of a given product. Acceleration testing at the dragstrip is only one of them. They also measure airflow on the flowbench and a host of operating parameters on engine and chassis dynamometers. Our engineers also record road course test data, skid pad data, performance data over a predetermined street circuit, etc. The test protocol is selected as a function of the product and how it's used. The cars that the engineers use to perform this testing are prepared only to simulate real world conditions. In some cases, preparation may also include installing parts to remove other variables from affecting test results. For example, specific tires are installed in order to provide consistent dragstrip results, so we can accurately measure the difference in performance of the part itself. However, there's no icing of intake manifolds, or special fuel, or special suspension setups (unless we're testing Callaway suspension, of course), or anything else done to try to get the best possible performance. The engineers are more concerned with eliminating all of the variables that can potentially skew the results one way or the other.

In the case of this test session, the car was specially prepared in that the radiator shroud was modified and the filter base was installed at the factory, then the hole was blocked off for use with the stock intake. This let the engineers change from baseline-stock to Honker-equipped at the race track within a few minutes of making baseline passes. Thus, track and atmospheric conditions would be more consistent during both sets of runs. A-B-A testing had to be performed so they had to revert to the stock air intake after testing the Honker to verify that the improvement was valid. The only other preparation was installing drag radials at the track to provide consistent launches, not possible with stock tires. This particular car only had 275 - 280 miles on the odometer when this testing was performed and was driven to and from the track.

Our performance claim for the LS3 Honker is 0.3 to 0.4 seconds on an otherwise completely stock 2008 Corvette. With yesterday's acceleration testing, several passes were made in each configuration. If the median data is used, the improvement is closer to 0.3 seconds than it is to 0.4 seconds. However, if all of the data from this session is considered, the difference in ET's is, in fact, as much as 0.4 seconds. In Callaway's typically-conservative style, LS3 Honker advertising will specify "approximately 0.3 sec improvement in elapsed time" was recorded.

Sorry for the length of the post, and I don't know whether I convinced anyone that we're not lying about test results, but because of the tone of the questions we received today, I thought we should offer an explanation.

Just where do you come up with this great stuff? Although I believe it and I was not on any test track and I did have my corsa sport exhaust, installed and pumping out fire, along with my big ole callaway Z06 HonkerAir Induction System. It pulls strong. I just wonder if callaway has any modified maf/mass available. Didn't see any on his site. The only one I have seen is the Granatelli. Would appreciate any inputs.
thanks Ray

From Mike Zoner, Callaway's Managing Director and the driver of the '08 in this test session:

The reason for dragstrip performance increase is:

1. closer to ambient inlet air temp
2. reduction in inlet restriction throughout engine and vehicle speed range @ full load
3. increase in MAP @ higher vehicle speeds. For reference: +2 kPa at end of 1/4 mile

Again, summary dyno data:

OE Intake w/Hood Open 3 Run Avg =
392.3 rwhp/ 390.3 lb-ft; IAT(°F) - ECT(°F) @ start / finish = 78 / 79 - 207 / 211
Honker Hood Open 3 Run Avg =
402.7 rwhp/ 397.6 lb-ft; IAT(°F) - ECT(°F) @ start / finish = 75 / 78 - 207 / 209

OE Intake w/Hood Closed 3 Run Avg =
386.4 rwhp/ 383.6 lb-ft; IAT(°F) - ECT(°F) @ start / finish = 81 / 100 - 210 / 210
Honker Hood Closed 3 Run Avg =
402.9 rwhp/ 395.9 lb-ft; IAT(°F) - ECT(°F) @ start / finish = 77 / 79 - 212 / 216

Conclusion: Callaway Honker vs OE Intake Chassis Dyno SAE P/T Increase = 16.5 rwhp/12.3 lb-ft (hood closed) and 10.4 rwhp/7.3 lb-ft (hood open)

Regarding drag testing, note following summary data:

OE 3 Run Avg =
1.763 / 7.716@91.81 / 11.955@115.95 : IAT(°F) - ECT(°F) @ start / finish = 92 / 70 - 222 / 221 (MAP = 98 kPa @ finish)
Honker 3 Run Avg =
1.752 / 7.524@ 93.79 / 11.687@118.06 : IAT(°F) - ECT(°F) @ start / finish = 73 / 62 - 224 / 222 (MAP = 100 kPa @ finish)

60' delta = 0.012 s
1/8M delta = 0.192 s, 1.98 mph
1/4M delta = 0.268 s, 2.11 mph

My experience (testing with C4/C5/C6 Corvettes over the past 19 years) would say the 0.012 s advantage in the first 60' would equate to a 0.018 s advantage at the end of the 1/4 (1.5 x 0.012), so call it a 0.25 s advantage and 2 mph.

The results are the results. The Honker continuously demonstrated improvements in vehicle performance as compared with the OE. This testing was conducted at a public venue, for all to witness. No closed doors.

Regards,

Michael Zoner
Managing Director

Talked to callaway this morning. He said they would be testing by Dec and hopefully finalized on the LS3 Supercharger by the new year

No More Calloway shorty headers for C6 ???

Help? have been told that Calloway is no longer offering the shorty headers for the 2006 Z51-C6. I have just had a Corsa Sport exhaust system installed by Zip and love it, now wanting to go to the next level- the headers. But they say no more. What happened?. Wanted to keep the org. cats and new x-pipe But am told that I will have to lose my new x-pipe and go to other cats to fit the long tube headers. Am looking at LG Headers now. Can anyone offer any insight to my problem. Thanks in advance...JB in Baltimore MD.

I would talk to Callaway directly. Sorry I don't have their # but *89x2* can probaly help you. He is a wealth of knowledge.
