Can the PKE system be less passive/automatic?

I've studied the owners manual and previous posts here - I think I've figured out most of the Passive Keyless Entry system's nuances and have now successfully re-coded a 2nd fob.

As far as I can tell the PKE does not allow for a basic non-automatic operation of simply pushing the key fob door lock button to toggle the car into locked/secure or unlocked/unsecure. It seems to be either automatic (proximity) or off. Am I right? There is no way to make it a more basic traditional manual keyless-entry / keyless lock button operation?

While on the topic and if the PKE cannot be put in a manual lock/unlock mode - what about adding a simple basic aftermarket keyless entry kit that toggles the drivers side master door lock switch? Would that not also turn the alarm on when it's locked and the car is off/doors closed? Plus probably the added feature of locking the doors after the engine starts.

On 2nd thought the keyless entry kit may not work w/ the alarm at least. I think I read that the factory security system is only disarmed by the PKE fob or the door key. If so the security system may need to be disabled on a late C4 to work with a typical aftermarket keyless kit. Can anyone verify this?
