carb heat shield

the phenolic spacers work far better than shields. under the hood with the motor off, heat rises through the manifold and saturates the carb. phenolic spacers don't transmit heat, aluminum does. the shield you are looking at will help a little, but heat still gets through to the carb, running a combo of both will be the best thing. if hood clearance is an issue, buy the phenolic one, Brian

I replaced the flimsy thin gasket I had with the correct 1" thick fiber gasket thinking it would fix the problem. It hasn't...
Would a phenolic spacer make much of difference as opposed to what I have now?

i am assuming you have the stock Q-jet base gasket. phenolic will help a little more than what you have. fiber does transmit some heat, but phenolic blocks heat. you also have heat soak coming from "oven" effect of no air movement under the hood, if this the case fixing your problem gets more difficult. try opening your hood after driving and don't close it until your ready go again. this may help you figure if the air is heating your carb or transferring through the intake manifold.
