I'd try a local wrecking yard

the part is not Corvette specific.. a caddy or station wagon would do nicely!

The idle solenoid you seek is not required on non a/c vehicles. The only time it is used is to raise the idle when the a/c is in use to prevent stalling.

the car came with this .we did not install . car was bought new in pa in april of 74 car has no factory air .problem is we re did the carb .carb is working great the problem is when you turn key to acessory plunger pops out ,which it should, but when you turn the key to start it pops back in which it should not .it only does this when the car is hot and makes it hard to get it to idle you have to tap the gas . just trying to make work like it should .but thanks for the info bill :hb :beer

On non-A/C cars, this solenoid was used as an "anti dieseling" device. You set the idle using the plunger, and the idle SCREW is backed off from there so that when you shut the key off, the throttle plates essentially closed.

The solenoids always gave problems as the cars aged and I often had success just eliminating them and use the idle SCREW to set the actual idle speed. This wasn't usually a problem on a good condition, well tuned engine.

You migth try Paragon or Zip for a carb solenoid. I have seen them in the Paragon catalog for sure, just not sure of the years they carry. Also you could ask their vintage services at both if they have used ones.

So that's how that works then? I knew that when you started up the car that there would be a "cold idle" (a faster idle) to warm it up, and when, after warmer, you step on the accelerator it may go down if warm enough, this solenoid controls the choke in the carb? And when you hit acceleration, it does what exactly?

If you can find the solenoid in any of the catalogs it is going to set you back $60+. Save your money and reset your idle stop screw to maintain an idle between 500 and 600 rpm and eliminate the the solenoid. On a/c cars it was only used when the a/c was in use. In your case, with no a/c it is only extra baggage. You car will idle fine without it when you have readjusted the stop screw.

Nope - has nothing to do with the CHOKE FAST IDLE. That is ANOTHER Cam that holds the throttle plates open even wider until the "heat pot" warms up and opens the choke. Some of them would drop down in steps by themselves (very seldom worked!), most held the "fast idle" - even when the choke plates opened - until you press the accelerator pedal.

Badwillie - it is still available through GM under part# 17111376.
I have one for $55 if interested...

New one from a Chevy dealer is over $100. I bought one last year. They are still available, but in a shorter design. The "can" is much shorter. Aftermarket folks like Auto Zone have them as well- these really are shorter, almost look like the secondary vacuum diaphragm unit, but serve the same function.

thank you

thanks for all the info ,we purchased one today at of all places r s strauss .these people never have what i want .but this time they did .again thank you for the help .:beer
