How do you tell if the Carb Idle Stop Solenoid is functioning or needs replacing? If it needs to be replaced, are they different between an L48 and an L82 of the same year? Is this a true statement? "The idle stop solenoid is not energized unless an air conditioning function is selected (MAX, NORM, BI-LEVEL, or DEF). When energized, the solenoid plunger extends, increasing idle speed to compensate for A/C compressor loads. A better name for this solenoid might be "air conditioning solenoid" since the solenoid only controls idle speed during air conditioning operation".

Yes, the statement is correct. It simply kicks the idle up a few 100rpm when the air is in use. I would think it's the same for L48 and L82. Not adjustable. Only on automatics, not on manuals.

Ditto the above. With the engine at idle, turn on the AC. Idle will go up slightly if the idle stop solenoid is working.

:)

So, there's no real difference between an L48 and L82 Carb Idle Stop Solenoid.
