Hello to all since Im new here. Not young, just new.
I converted my 89-L98 to a carb and it runs great. But I learned on this forum that the stock L98 cam is designed to work in concert with the TPI runners to produce low end torque. So my question is simple- what would be a good cam choice for an L98 with an edelbrock performer intake and ebrock 1406 carb? I plan to change out the timing chain at some point and would like to install a hotter cam that is more suited to a carb set up.I read somewhere that the crane-cam#114142 might be a good choice. But I just dont know and would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Your '89 113 alum heads were used on the GMPP ZZ4 crate engine that made 350Hp with a carb
New takeout ZZ4 cams always around for $80 - $150.
You will need the corresponding ZZ4 GMPP # 12495494 valve springs ( worth changing springs due to age anyway )

GM Performance Parts 12495494 - LT4 SB Chevrolet Valve Spring Kit | SDParts - 1-800-456-0211

114142 is a flat tappet cam ; your engine has a roller cam

Thanks for the input vetteoz.Pulling the heads or crank are about the only things Ive never done before.I'll be pulling the heads to replace the gaskets which have a minor leak. The crank is fine.So I'll be changing timing chain/gears;cam/springs;front main seal and probably have the valves grinded or replaced depending on their condition. Thanks again for the advice.:thumb
