Carpet replacement

I just removed the carpeting and padding from my 65 convert. Is there an easier way to remove the old adhesive?? I tried a wire wheel on a drill motor. I tried wax and grease remover. Thanx

Theres really no need to remove it at all.Just make sure its clean and re glue.

I soaked my 63 with Simple Green and used a putty knife to remove the old glue and carpet remnants.

It sure looks nicer than mine. There is green adhesive all over, but I'll giv it a try

Almost finished with my 65 install. I used a Gasket scraper ( Heavy Duty Type) that has a heavy steel type blade which can be sharpened with a file.

But the best thing I used was a Sanding block . It's like a sponge covered completly with and 80 Grit compound. Go to your local Hardwhare store and check out the abraisive isle.

I didn't remove all of the glue ....Just leveled the area so the Underlament would lye flat.

...heck, what got leveled was the installer....VNV used so much solvent/glue on the carpet install that it took both of us back to the 60's...it was so enjoyable that i turned the fan AROUND to blow the fumes back into the car :blue:

What padding or underlayment are you using? Is the padding necessary? I always thought so but was advised by one of the suppliers that it is not. Please advise. Bill

I bought some foil backed insulation from Ricks Corvettes in North Carolina. It is great and easy to use. Sorry it took so long to respond. Been out of town.
