Don’t let your Z run out of gas! Last year I ran out of gas and set off a chain of events that I hope stops now. Some dirt must have gotten past the fuel filter and stuck some of the injectors open. I got a right side rich code from the computer. I changed injectors (all of them) and I thought all was good. A year later the car just barley passed smog (California). Last week I started getting a rattling noise from the passenger side of the motor. After checking the noise is coming from the right cat. Now for the question, has anyone changed a cat on a 90 ZR-1? If so, what type of cat did you use?

The previous owner of my car had a cat come apart on him. As you know they are manifold and cat together. So he replaced it with another cat from I believe a later model Z. The car now has watson headers on it no cats. You should be able to find another one. Try Marc Haibeck at 630-458-8427 or www.zr1specialist.com . Or he can point you in the right direction. :w

The 1990 exhaust manifold and cat is one piece. You must replace the entire unit. I currently have aftermarket headers with aftermarket cats, but they wont work as a replacement for the stock maniflods. Double check to make sure its not the heat shield etc causing the noise. If you need a replacement, I can sell you one side of my originals. They have approx 30 k miles. Barely passing an emissions test can be a need for new oxygen sensors if all else checks.
