Has anyone found a way to change the gas filter on a convertable without removing the X cross brace support. My filter is behind the support brace on the rail, but I can not get to it.

We did mine on a hoist. It was snug, but we managed to get up into that space between the passenger side rail and the mount. Didn't take the brace off...

The X brace is not really that hard to remove. Once you get the car up about 12" or so, just use a ratchet and socket to remove the bolts and nuts. The bolts and nuts are not real tight (25 ft-lbs or so) . It's not exactly a light weight component so use a small floor jack under the center as you remove the last few bolts. Then lower the brace with the jack and take it out from under the car.

BTW, you would need to remove the brace to do a filter change on an auto tranny car so if you have an A4, this might be the time to do that too.

Did it on my 91 Vette Vert on Jackstands. Not too bad of a job once you remove the heat shield. Didn't remove the X brace. Took a little patience but it can be done.

Just make sure you remove the nut's that hold the fuel line in place so you can get to the filter about 5 of them running down the side of the car.
