I recently installed a edelbrock performance carb and summit distributor on my gm crate vortec engine. I bypassed the computer and now the check engine light is constantly on. I want to remove the check engine blulb but I am having trouble getting to the blub. when I remove the screws from the instrument panel (where the oil pressure, temperature etc guages are) the panel will not come off. What is holding the panel on?

Thanks for any suggestions!

I believe there are 2 screws in the top section, then 2 screws in the lower side panel, also there are 2 small screws that connect the center gauge cluster panel to the console. To access those it is best to remove the console side kick panels.

Also BE VERY CAREFULL when removing the gauge cluster panel. There is a maglight that illuminates the console that has some very sharp edges that will cut or tear the dash, unless you use a small screw driver to help clear the obstructions with the sharp edges..

console side kick panel

thanks Rare 81 for you reply, I see no way to remove the console side kick panels (where the driver's right leg or passenger's left leg would normally rest on the carpeting). Any suggestions?

If it is any thing like the '78, then there are 3 screws that hold each panel on to the middle console. You should be able to get them out with the seats in, but to take out the seats, it is just 4 bolts each.
