I have a Holley 3367 on my L-79 '66 327. The engine fires up right away with choke at full tilt. It seems to take way too long to get down to final idle at 750-800 RPM's. It will come down if you run it long enough. I was wondering if there are any specific adjustments that can be done to decrease the time.

There is a step/ cam on the passenger's side of the carb that is controlling all this. Upon quick observation, I don't see any specific way of adjusting it.

I would replace the bimetallic spring mounted on the intake manifold. It controls the choke release time.

There are only two adjustments possible with that choke design. You can change the fast idle speed by using a screwdriver to bend the metal tang that contacts the plastic step cam. You can also change the initial choke butterfly setting by bending the vertical linkage rod that connects the carb to the bimetallic spring.

Jerry, can that spring be purchased from any auto parts store?

There were two different choke springs for the 327 engine in use for 1966, as memory serves me. I believe the two coil in opposite directions. And, some of the aftermarket Corvette suppliers had the wrong applications shown in their catalog, ask some questions and look at your old one before buying a new one to be sure it's correct. Not sure that both choke bimetal coils are readily available.

That bimetallic coil is actually called a choke thermostat by GM. I used to buy the one for your car under part #3887148. I don't know if that part is still available, but I would call a local dealership before going to Paragon or LICS.

I've never known an aftermarket parts store like CarQuest or Autozone to carry something like this. Come to think of it, I've never asked.

I'm assuming the choke butterfly is not wide open , but the idle is still high? I bent the rods on mine until everthing was back like I wanted.
These L-79's , 4.11s and a 4-speed are so much fun.
