Has anyone installed the "hoop" roll bars on their convertible?

I would love to, and plan on it, they are sharp...
gotta recover from my long tube headers first....
check out www.lgmotorsports.com and click on dyno day
and watch the pro corvette in action..turn up the speakers..
yikes!!! He can shift...great headers, but they did not come with
instructions how to shift like that.

I went ahead and ordered them...

then found out they are on backorder for another week! Grrrrr, I hate to wait!

Corvette Fever's cover this month shows them on a yellow car - I think they will look nice! If they do I'll post pics...

FYI

I have to say so far I am totally unimpressed with the customer service at RK Sport. I ordered these hoops on 5/12/03 - still have not shipped even though I was informed on 5/15 and 5/21 that they were in stock and would ship that day or next day, then when I call back they say they are on backorder! I called Eckler's, and they drop ship from RK Sport, so it seems pointless to cancel my order and re-order through Eckler's. Has anyone seen another vendor for these? I really want them, but waiting is not my strong point.....

Just have to vent....

called RK Sport again since my order still not marked "shipped" on internet site. Now they tell me they had to send the hoops back to be re-chromed!! Maybe I don't need chrome hoops....Grrrrrr....

I installed the Chrome seatback hoops on my 2000 roadster a year ago. I used a 2 part epoxy to attach them.

The hardest part was cutting the carpet to fit around the hoops.

I think they look great on the roadsters. I've seen them on coupes, and they look good but just don't hit you like they do on a roadster.

Here's a picture.

do you have a picture from farther away. from the front corner, so we get the whole car + the hoops

They look awesome Ed!!

I guess I just need to be patient - it will be worth the wait!

The hoops sure look sharp Ed.....especially with that color combo ;) Thanks for posting the pics. Couple questions:
- Are they full rated safety roll bars?
-Did you notice much seat adjustment loss?

Brett

By the way...

did those leather sleeves come with the hoops, or did you buy them aftermarket?

Thanks for the kind words.

No they are not approved roll bars. They are strictly for appearance.

I drive with the seat all the way back in the tracks and there is no loss of travel. The reclining portion of the seat is slightly restricted when the seat is at the back end of the tracks but not enough to prevent a pretty laid back driving position. For all practical purposes their is no restriction in seat adjustability.

Thanks for the, "awesome."

The pads are not leather, but a black fabric, like velour.

They are actually shoulder belt pads with a foam backing. You just wrap them around the bar and they are held together with velcro. I put the stainless steel snaps on the ends of each velcro strip because I didn't like the way the ends pulled back, exposing the velcro.

I now like the look of roll bar padding, but I really came up with the idea to cover up the sh--ty job I did cutting the carpet. As I said before, that was the hardest part of the install. At least it was for me.

By the way I got them at Pep Boys, for $4.95 a pair.

Thanks Ed!

I will be anxiously awaiting my hoops. I may write you back for installation tips once they get here - the carpet-cutting part is scary! And good idea with the shoulder belt pads - they look like they belong there...

On the convertible I just purchased the hoops were installed and looked great.

Problem was if you have your seat back against the hoop there was no way to avoid rattling your head around on those bars. Having just survived an accident with my SL all I could think about was getting into another fender bender and crushing my head against those very unyeiding hoops. Granted I am 6'3" but even for someone not so tall I think you would still stand the chance to bounce off the sides. Just my .02. Needless to say I took them off and now have some carpet to replace.

Today is one month since I ordered..

and still no hoops! When I called last Friday they told me they were delayed this time because they relocated to another county, but that I was 3rd on the list for shipment. I hope these stupid things are REALLY nice.....
