DANBURY, CT -- A sleek fiberglass body, a big engine and the open road on a sunny, summer day. Put them all together and they spell Corvette, the dream car for many a teenaged boy in the late 1950s and 1960s.
Fast forward more than four decades. Part of the parking lot at the Danbury Fair mall is filled with Corvettes, driven by many of the same men who dreamed about owning one when they were boys.
A caravan of nearly 100 Corvettes from around New England and eastern Canada stopped at the mall for a few hours Sunday morning en route to Bowling Green, Ky., the location of the plant where General Motors builds the automotive icon.
"We grew up with cars. We were gearheads," said George Sipprell, ambassador-at-large for Club Corvette of Connecticut and the man who organized the New England portion of the caravan.
