Clutch MC and slave rebuild kits

I wanted to do a rebuild on my 1990 and nobody makes clutch MC and slave rebuild kits anymore. I can find a handful of kits for the Clutch MC, but no
slave kits.
After reviewing a few of the posts where other vette owners have rebuilt
their clutch slave and MC's, I am wondering where the parts for rebuild are coming from or came from.
Have all the parts houses in the US stopped making parts for the do
it yourselfer?
I don't trust the parts houses that sell the rebuilt stuff. Sometimes the rebuilts don't work and are faulty. Bottom line they are way overpriced.

Anybody please HELP!!!

I know it's been done because I've read about it here numerous times. Wish I could help you but at least you get a bump!:D

Have you checked the local stores for rebuild kits?

I'd contact Bill Boudreau @ www.zfdoc.com.

You can email or call him. He will have the answer/s you are looking for. :dance

I just got a slave rebuild kit from rockauto.com, they have the master cylinder rebuild kit too! I think it was $7 or $8 for the kit and I got it in three days

TDR1919,
I just called RockAuto and inquired about parts for the clutch MC and clutch slave
cylinder kits. They offer the clutch MC kit for about $28, but do not offer the clutch
slave kit at all. I am not sure what is different with your application. You got the kit for your car, that must have been a miracle, I have a 1990. There much be some difference. I wish I could get the kit for $7 or $8 bucks. That would be fantastic.
thanks,

Misrun,

I have an 86, they had 2 kits for the slave cylinder, one by raybestos and the
other was a bendix. Maybe your car is different.
I originally bought a slave cylinder from "not just vettes" but the hydrolic line
wouldn't thread, they got another of the same part and again the pipe thread was different, they also said there was no such thing as a rebuild kit, but the
one I got from Rockauto worked just fine.

Misrun, actually I was wrong it is a WAGNER Part # F103535
1" Bore {Clutch Slave Cylinder Kit} for 7 and change, look under 86 corvette and you will see both parts (raybestos is out of stock)
maybe this kit will work with your vette.

Got both my kits from Auto Zone just over a year ago.

I was going to say Auto Zone but I just wasn't quite sure.:L The answer sounded too simple so I kind of discounted it.

The aluminum cylinders are often pitted and a kit may be a very short term fix. They cannot be honed like the old steel ones.

I've long wished for a bore and SS sleeve exchange source for both items.

I took mine over to the local transmission guy, and he looked at it and said just to give it a pass with 600 grit wet/dry then blow it out and clean it, give it a
good coating of brake fluid before you insert the piston/seal.

I did opt to buy a new master cylinder though.

Contacted Bill the ZF pro. He wasn't to optomistic about kits for rebuilding. He did however express his distaste to me regarding the clutch hydraulics. He did find a parts list of the Clutch Master Cyl and the Slave cyl. Pretty basic, but I don't know if Lucas Girling makes the parts any longer. Seems they made the kits at sometime, but now I don't know how to connect to them either. German trans and Lucas hydraulics from England I suspect is their origin.

I mean, there is really nothing to rebuilding it, only if the bore is damaged. I guess finding a kit is the real trick.

Maybe it's about time to see if a shop is interested in offering a bore and stainless; exchange old for new, type of deal. It'd be nice to do it once more and be done for good. Some years ago, I talked with an outfit in the NYC area who asked me to send my (old) spare clutch master, but I never did it.

Every so often I come across something on the car that I would like to replace but find that no one makes it anymore. Also, it would be helpful to have more exchange/rebuild services, such as clutch hydralics. What I periodically do is contact some of the usual suppliers of goods and services for our cars and suggest they consider providing the part or service. I encourage everyone to do likewise. For example, not too long ago I remember reading that if you had any problems with the digital dash it was real expensive to take care of. Now, there are all sorts of rebuild/exchange services out that have made it relatively easy to care of and much less expensive.
