Clutch pedal to the floor

Have a 2007 C6 6 speed with about 13K on it. No mods except K&N filter.

I was almost done packing for Carlisle and wanted to move the car to give it a last minute wash when the clutch went to the floor and won't go up. I heard a very small "click" when it went to the floor and the car was NOT started. All I wanted to do was release the clutch so the car would roll closer to the water hose.

Now it starts in gear and I had a heck of a time getting it out of gear. It will now start in neutral but has a hard time and smells like clutch.

Called road side assistance. They picked up the car within 1 hour and the dealer will look at it sometime tomorrow AM. I hope it's something simple so I can still make Carlisle!!!! Very frustrating, why the night I'm leaving?

Any ideas on what went wrong?

I bet your clutch fluid is as black as coffee. You can reach down and "pull" the pedal back up. There are excuses on why this happens, but the cure to keep it from happening is to service your clutch fluid...OFTEN!

HI there,
You most likely have a hydraulic fluid leak, so the pressure exerted by the master cylinder isnt going down the to the clutch slave cylinder.
Was there anything on the ground, like a brake fluid type consistancy??

Checked the reservoir and it is black but no sludge or anything. It didn't seem like anything was unusual.

There was no fluid on the ground or under the hood or under the car at all. What's weird to me is that the car was not started and there was a light "click" when I depressed the clutch. Is there a clip that connects the rod that could have brocken off or something like this (naturally I'm looking the the easy fix )

I would have never thought that at 13K miles this would be so critical so soon!

If I get to go to carlisle, I'll be parked at CB144. The car's not for sale, but I never have to worry about no parking spaces and I like being in the thick of things there. I've sold a few cars there and it's become a habit.

Look on the underside of the cap on the rubber diaphragm. Is there a "jelly like" substance? The clutch system is VERY sensitive to this. You'll need to wipe clean the rubber, syringe empty the reservior, refill with clean, fresh DOT 4. Go pump the clutch pedal about 20-30 times. Repeat until the fluid remains clear. (It might take a bottle to get this done.)

The light "click" is the switch to allow starting.

Is there a clip that connects the rod that could have brocken off or something like this (naturally I'm looking the the easy fix )

There have been linkage problems but 99% of the time, it's the fluid.

I would have never thought that at 13K miles this would be so critical so soon!

I have 19500 miles on my Z and I've been doing this "fix" for 2.5 years almost every month!

Got back from Carlisle with the SUV(yeck). It was great! I sat in on one of c4c5specialist's seminars. YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF!!! I did as you suggested while this car is apart, I am having them install the Z06 clutch. The dealer told me my clutch part number has been superceded and is now the same part number as the Z51 and Z06 clutch (I hope this is accurate)

They have determined the clutch slave cylinder and reservoir will be replaced. The parts came in yesterday and they are in the process of completing today...maybe getting into tomorrow.

After going to Carlisle, I want to go for a Corvette ride sssoooo bad!!!

Glad you enjoyed it as much as I enjoy giving them.
Just make sure they install the balancing pins from the OLD flywheel to the new, if you change it.

I told them about that and the flywheel is not getting changed. I looked at it and it is in fantastic shape...not worn at all.

It's was hard to suggest anything to many dealers because they don't think I'm getting accurate info. They kind of look at me cross-eyed, but after checking and verifying, they are listening. Especially when I tell them they'd better get it right and if there is a problem, it better not be because they did not take my suggestions seriously.

Just an update,

Got the car back yesterday afternoon.

I guess replacing the clutch slave cylinder and reservoir did the trick plus since they were in there anyway, I had them install the Z06 clutch for just the cost of parts.

All is right with the world again!!!

My 08 clutch failed yesterday - 2-3 shift and the peddle didn't come back up - just stuck to the floor and no clutch. Coasted into a parking lot. I can pull the clutch peddle back up but it pops right back down to the floor at the slight touch and the clutch doesn't engage.
Checked the clutch fluid and it's black with a jelly like goo on the diaphram in the cap.
Roll-back tow truck hauled it off.

Now I'm waiting to see what the service department has to say about it.

After reading this thread I checked my fluid (13,000 miles) for the first time.It was gross and there was crud on the rubber.
Very easy fix ,I took my wifes turkey baster sucked all I could out,refilled with fresh fluid.I pumped the clutch about 20 times .Then I changed the fluid again and again till it was clear .I think i'll flush it each time I do an oil change ,which I do about every 5-8000 miles.

I was cleaning the garage earlier this year and I came across that baster. It used to be clear plastic, but now it is milky white and very brittle to the touch. Guess I'll have to get another baster...

She wasn't home ,hell i'm not foolish I just washed real good and put it back in the draw .My oldest son when he lived at home would put his tools in the dishwasher after every use.My wife would go off the deep end when she'd open it up and find hammers,wrenches ,oil filter wrenches and screw drivers in there.

Don't be stupid, go buy another baster to replace the one you ruined for food use. You're gonna need the baster again, so just leave it in the garage with the rest of your tools. I hope you're being sarcastic in your above statement. Sometimes the written word doesn't portray emotion accurately.:W
