Can anyone help me to firgure out if the clutch is slipping or if the hydraulic clutch is causing it to slip because it isn't working properly. The car has 38000 miles on it and i can't believe the clutch is worn out.

I just changed the clutch master and slave cylinder on my 1990 with 39K miles. The slave was leaking. If the clutch hydraulics get weak the clutch becomes difficult to disengage, kind of the opposite problem. I'd make sure the clutch master has fluid, it's on the firewall near the battery. You have to undo a couple bolts and move the computer out of the way on my 1990.

Whats not working properly ? What are the symptoms ? Is it slipping ? or :confused

I had a corvette specialist check it out today and he says I need a new clutch. Does anyone know of a good clutch to buy. It is the lt1 motor so I don't think I need a performance clutch. My car is a 93 convertable.

Check out these people, I just received my clutch from them. Best price I could find. GM Junkie recommended them to me. I called them and they are very knowlagable people.

Thanks for the info. I was told that I also need to change the flywheel because it is a dual mass and can't be resurfaced. Does anyone have any experience with this ?

I was told that the shavings from milling get into the inside of the flywheel and eventually cause it to fail. Also the life expectancy of the flywheel appears to be about 80,000 miles. Many don't last that long. With the amount of work involved in installing the clutch I didn't feel ,even if the flywheel was ok, that I didn't want to take a chance of it failing in the near future and having to do the install again.
I was also told that in the corvettes it is very common for them to fail at about 40,000 miles. He also talked about the Ford diesels with a dual mass flywheel. In those he said 100,000 miles is about tops. The only diff with the Ford flywheel is that it can be taken apart which is not true with the corvette flywheel.
take a look at this thread I posted on another forum.

I called carolina clutch and they said a luk clutch was not available but a valeo and a luk flywheel for $1000.00. This seems quite reasonable especialy when the gm dealer want $2500.00 just for the flywheel. What did you put on you rcar? Any suggestions on what clutch and flywheel would be ok to put on my car?

I have that combo in the garage . I will be installing it next week. The shipping was $31 to Iowa. Think it was three days. The LUK flywheel is what was installed OEM.
For street use the consensus seems to be to stay with the dual mass flywheel.
