I have to finally put the clutch in my 1990. Is there a good place online to buy the clutch kit and Dual Mass flywheel?
I am thinking I might want to stay with LUK. Is this the wise thing to do ?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Glenn,

They have the original flywheel made by LUK and the OEM clutch kit made by Valeo.

I would definitely not use anything else!

LT4man, You obviously know how to use a clutch........

In a former life, I owned & operated an auto and truck mechanical repair shop for almost twenty years. In all fairness, when one understands the workings of a clutch assembly, one has an easier time using that technology.

Also, when one has installed several hundred clutches, one realizes the intense labor involved! ;LOL

question about the flywheel. I read a bulletin about transferring balance weights to the new flywheel. Having never worked on newer manual trans. This is new to me.

Also with 80,000 miles on the car I assume it is wise to replace the flywheel ?

Yes, Glenn!

Don't use your old flywheel. There are some folks (2 or 3) who can actually resurface your old flywheel. You are just better off buying a new one and not worrying about doing the job a second time.

As far as match balancing the new flywheel:

You should be good to go! :upthumbs

I also used Carolina clutch. I did mine almost 2 yrs ago, went back in with a new stock Luk dual mass flywheel and valeo assy. I thought long and hard about utilizing a 1 pc flywheel and heavier duty pressure plate/disc assy. Bottom line, I dont drag race my car, I dont autocross. I've heard negative things about using 1 pc flywheels, namely a loud sound like rocks rattling in a tin can while idling in neutral with no load. Apparantly it does no damage but sounds like crap. Think about how you drive your car and what you want from your clutch.

I certainly agree with everything you have said. In fact, I could not say it any better!

I have done tons of searches here and on other Vette forums. The bottom line is the way you drive your Vette.

If an original clutch / flywheel assembly lasts 100,000 miles, the last thing you want to do is have it last less. The OEM set-up is ingenious and works.
