76 Sting

Guest
Hey all!!!

My 76 is red and the color code stamped on the inner door pannel is 69L. I was told this was painted to a stock color (repainted), but according to different sites 69L is brown.
Are there different stock color red's out there. I heard there were 2 offered orgionaly red & flame red.

I just put on a new stinger hood and need to match the paint that is on the car.

Thanks for everyones help in advance

Hey Curtis thanks for the info do you know if there is a significant difference between the Red and the Flame Red...meaning could I tell the difference easily if they were in front of me/

Thanks again

I believe the original code for my car was 70. It is an orange color. Of course the smoked candy apple red on it now looks much better. If you email me so I get your email address I will send you a colored chart of the colors. And YES you can tell the difference between the orange (flame red) and red. Not sure what the "L" stands for on the sticker, but no letters are listed with the color numbers.

I have been checking out Corvette colors for about that year and there is a questionable area concerning that red I have seen a Flame Orange color in that 75 76 year it does appear to be an orginal color, so is it Orange or is it red? By the way mine is in the process of being painted the Orange right now

Ok Here they are from my book. Flame Red is the orange one.

Curtis was nice enough to send over the paint differences between flame red and red and there is a significant difference.

My opinion it is closer to Orange

I think the 69L is the color code for the interior. Not sure though.

Brian,

I agree because it is a brown int, I am so confused :(

I believe the L means it is a Leather interior, there is a RPO number or 692 that means Dark Blue Leather interior. Does this help at all or just more confusing.
By the way RPO is reqular Production Option's and
69L is
69L : SECONDARY COLOR, EXTERIOR, ROOTBEER MET (92)
I know this does not help much but this is what the info in the Tech Center says. It looks like you car was repainted a differnet color that what it orginally was, you can sometimes tell by looking it the places that are hard to paint, under the headlight doors in the door jams.

You are correct in sayin git was repainted no signs of the other color...They took apart the car and painted the pieces seperately. Leather is the int and the color inside is Buckskin. If all is correct they are calling it Dark Brown Metallic???

I have never seen this color on a vette in my life and they also have color code 64 Buckskin Metallic all ext colors??? Something does not smell right:\

Does not seem right to me but the car looks good and if they painted all the parts and you can't tell then i would not worry about it unless you are going to have the car judged by the NCRS guys. Being from Oklahoma and a big Sooner fan, I would love for my "76" to be red with buckskin interior, Sooner colors are red and white, I am half there I have the buckskin interior but the extior color is Mahgony, and while I love it, its not red.

I am definately not taking it to big shows but plan on entering it in many of the locals. My concern is matching the hood when it gets repainted.... What if they did not choose the 76 paint code #72 (red paint). Then I might as well play the lotery that they even come close to matching.

WOW a Mahogany Metallic I have never seen that color before in my life sounds sweet (different)

I did not think of that, it could be problem matching that color but I bet if you get it repaint at a good shop they can match the color.

I really fell in love with the color of mine, it needs to be repainted but I can't swing the bucks yet. When I do I am going back with the same color.

By the way I just noticed you are from Rhode Island, I was born there my Dad was in the Navy at a place called Quidnesset Point its North of Wickford. You don't see to many folks from Rhode Island, its a small world.

I agree you do not find many of us vette guys from RI.

Quidnesset is where my wedding was held and I play golf there every week...That is kinda funny

GM generally used L as a code for two tone paint lower colors. Example 64U and 69L would be buckskin upper color and dark brown metallic lower color. Can you give us all the information on the trim tag? Is there a u (upper Code) on the trim tag?

If you are looking to match the color of your car go to a good body shop or body shop supply store that has equiptment to check color from the actual color on the car. They will then make up paint that matches. There were many manufacturers of paint and even the same color names had slight variences.

Brown was a real popular color in the 70's and many cars were repainted Red in later years after all they say all Corvettes are Red.
