column Lock

Service steering column lock is showing up on the DIC. Nothing seems wrong .
Any one knows what this could mean? Thanks

I got my Y2K (automatic) in dec. The display reads "Service steering column lock" when I start the car. I hit the reset and it stays off until next startup. Runs fine! A little annoying, but ok. I went through the codes and there were none. A trip to MY local stealership verified that the "fix" was made by the original dealer years ago. I dont trust any of them so I will leave it alone. I also called Chev. and they said that I should see the dealer. These things are trouble but if it is of no bother I will leave it . Luckily I dont get the dreaded gas shut off! BTW if anyone has a fix let me know.

Up Date: After reading several postings, realized my trouble with the "service steering lock" did not start till I had weaken the battery working on head lights. I disconnected the battery over night, charged it, reconnected the next day and no service message.
