Uh, just my 2 cents, but if you have a 64, the frame will not accept a big block motor since it's missing some notches, I believe that's what I read in an earleir post. Also, you should be able to tell what type of motor it is by reading the engine codes on the stamp pad in the front right of the motor where the assembly date and vin number is also indicated. For instance, 65 396 would have code "IF", 66 427's "IL" "IM" "IQ" "IR""IP""IK" and so on.....Also the casting block for a 65 396 motor should have the casting date of 3855962, 66 427' should have 3869942 althought a few have been found with either 3855961 or 3855962, and lastly a 67 should have #38869942 (early) and 3916321 (late). Getting this from a restoration book. Check to see if it's even possible to put a big block in your 64 or sensible ($)!!. However, it seems that if your looking for a correct date coded block then you are trying to keep the car correct, if that's the case then you definitely need a 327 (since no big blocks were available in 64) in your car with the right date code, depending on what you vin # and assembly date of the car reflects (which you can tell by looking at you vin plate underneath the glove box).
