Like many other C5 vert owners, my toneau cover hits my rear window in the process of lowering or raising the top. (I know this is hard to picture) When you have both halves upright and then either open or close the toneau cover it thumps on the top where the rear window rests.
So... I'm still under warranty so I took it to my local dealer. After they checked it out, they said it couldn't be adjusted any more to prevent this from happening. My reply to that was... if you can't fix it, then replace it with one that works! He said well that is very costly. So what the hell does that mean? Too costly for you but OK for me to replace the top when it eventually will get a hole in it from the point of contact. What a crock of ****!
I called GM cust. service and dumped this into their lap. They are supposed to get back with me Monday. I can't wait!

I'm so damn hot right now, I would almmost pee on a spark plug to find a dealer thats worth a ****. :r :bash :hb

why dont you go pee on their front door or street sign, just to prove your point. you will have to wait for C4C5 to come back online for a "profeshional" answer

My 2000 roadster does this also. In fact I've tried every c5 roadster I have access to, including dealer showrooms, and guess what. They all do it. After my initial shock at this I looked closer and found that what the hard tonneau cover is hitting is the fabric glare shield for the rear window that lays over the tonneau cover when the top is up. This prevents the painted surface of your tonneau cover from reflecting in the rear window.

If it ever wears through I'll probably just take it off.

Hi there,
Yes, all of them do it, however, you can do something to prevent it.
I simply hold my hand on the #5 bow, which is the one that contacts the deck lid you speak of, and just ever so slightly pull towards the front of the car.
You dont have to worry about the top folding out, because of the tension bow system.
Give it a shot, and let us know how you make out.
There is something that can be done, however, it will take some time, and 2 people.

I,m very interested in the "2 man cure"! What is it? Why didn't the dealer do it? I sure wish you were in my area, it seems like the local Mr. Goodwrench is just not up to speed on Vettes.
;help :pat

Hi there,
Well basically, here is goes.
Your top assembly is retained to the car with 6 bolts behind the upper seat belt anchor locations.
Now, if you reference the attached links, they can show you exactly what to do.
You first remove the pivot and the cover.

Then, you loosen the 6 mounting bolts that hold the entire top assembly in place.

Adjust the top forward slightly to clear the tonneau. And retorque to specs, 18 ft lbs.
Then you MUST READJUST THE ENTIRE TOP, to the new mounting positions.
This is how I do it, and it takes a total of 3 hours to correctly realign and adjust afterwards.
IT IS NOT EASY.
