convertible question

I am interested in getting a C-4 Convert. The Mrs and I like to go away for a weakend now and then and I was wondering about the space or (ha, ha) lack of. When the top is up, can you fill up the well where the top would be when it is normally down. (can you use the whole 'well' area when the top is up??) How about 'down' is there only space in the front part of where the top would rest? I know about luggage racks, and if the car has it that's fine. But I want to know more about the 'inner space'. How do some of you manage? Thanks gang.

The top when down doesn't take that much space anyway (noticable, but not horrible). You should be able to fit a couple of duffle bags in the back with the top down for a weekend trip with no problem. the key is to use soft bags that you can 'smush' if necessary.

The luggage rack is good, necessary if you play golf! If you have a top cover (so the clubs don't come out) for your golf bag, you can bungee it to the rack. I don't think the rack is rated for much weight for luggage though.


Whether the top is up or down, all you have is the area below the deck lid... it isn't like a ZO6 where the whole area up to the roof is open. Hard to explain, you have to see one. It isn't quite like a 'normal' convertible because the deck lid is 'hard' not soft.

There's enough room back there for 1 Standard (oldfashion 3'x2'x8") size suitcase and standard duffle bag (10"x 4')with the top down. There was some extra little spaces here and there. I know this is true because I've done it.

I also know that a 4'X3' painting fits back there (alone) too, one of those impulse buys you know.

So far we haven't packed the car for driving with the top up. Sorry

For road trips in the Green Monster my wife's motto is "bring less clothes and more money." We have no trouble packing several days worth of casual clothing and some essentials behind the seats. Make sure all is secure before burying the foot in that LT4!

I have a 93 ruby with both tops, the space is limited but you can get a medium to large duffel and one small carry on bag in there. A standard suit case may fit but you would damage the seat backs trying to get it in and out. :confused The guy I bought mine from said he would FedEx his clothes to his hotel if he had to stay some place for a while. I guess you learn what to take. It cuts down on what your wife buys along the way!!!!!

I find the real problem is what you might like to accumulate along the way. You can pack to fit the space but you have no extra. One thing that makes life a whole lot simpler is a pole that attaches to the deck lid and wedges the lid and top wide open so you can pack. I think I got it from Corvette America. Slick!

The other point is I don't travel with the top down. That means that most of your gear is at the motel after you arrive and then you put the top down.

I agree with all of posts here in terms of space. I've been able to fit more with the top up (naturally). I normally don't like to put to much back there with the top down for fear of damaging the top but as others have said there is much more room behind the seats then you would think.

The space is not to bad with the top up or down, I think the benefits outweigh the disadvantages of having the wind in your face. I however would not put a luggage rack on my C4 for any reason. To me it takes away from its stealthness.

With the top up I was able to fit two three ball bowling bags. With the top down you lose some height. That is pretty much it. Plenty of room for clothes for a short trip.

I took the little tray out of the pass. side hatch , turns out to be a good place for a couple pairs of shoes , etc. We took ours for a 700 mile round trip for 4 days. had plenty of room. Even picked up a few small things on the trip.
I haven't figured out what they did with all that room there is in a coupe.Are there more braces for the convert ?

I use the Walmart bags and that works fine for me...Just fill them up and tie the tops...:L And for the sharp objects...be sure to double bag them You should see the look the valet gives me when he unloads the luggage[bags]

seriously tho, you can pack enough in the convertible to spend a weekend with no problem

I have travel in mine for a week, someone I think had it figured 10.5 cubic feet of space , don't know if that is true but I used a couple of soft gym bags and had compuuter in right side floor, made it ok had problem fitting dirty cloths bags in it coming home haven't figured that out yet, course two cases of pop didn't help. You will find travel is great in the vette no matter what you take.

The easiest way to put a suitcase in a convertible is to pop the rear part of the top, fold it up, then pop the hatch, place the suitcase in and reverse the process.

My brother and I was able to pack two small suitcases large enough for clothes for 3 days. This was during last years cruise fest.

I agree with the post using plastic shopping bags if visiting relatives (kinda tacky carrying them into a swanky hotel). We went on an extended two week cruise last year and shipped via UPS, clean clothes ahead to strategic stops (reservations) and had the hotel ship home the dirty ones (sorry UPS drivers).

With the top down, I am afraid of damaging it with luggage. But, there is many hiding spots still available.

Even with the shipping costs, I still crossed America driving a CORVETTE, small price to pay!
