How are cookies set up to work on this site? When I log out and log back in, all previously unread posts are marked as read, and only new posts since I logged out are shown as unread. Is there a way to set it where all posts stay unread until I actually read them?

I have also noticed that when I don't log out, just close the window, and come back later that even my read posts are still marked as unread.

Thanks

I stayed logged on all the time at home and at work. It seems that over a certain period of inactivity, maybe about twelve hours or so, it will change your "last visited" time which will affect what new posts are displayed since that time. When I log out and back in, it consistently shows no new or very few new posts. I usually choose "today's posts" when that happens.

When I move about reading posts it also doesn't accurately indicate those that I've already read; however, I "refresh" the page and those posts that I've read become indicated as read. So, your browser is caching the web page and showing you that old page until you hit "refresh".

Jim, I'm not well versed on the finer points of the "cookies" but much of what RVN stated seems to be the case as I've seen it.

I allow cookies on my home computer so that the site "recognizes" me when I come onsight, but I logoff and logon when I'm on any computer other than home.

If I feel I've missed new posts between visits, I do as RVN suggested and use the "Today's posts" on the homepage.

Thanks RVN and XLR8.

My issue is that I don't always have time to read the whole board. Sometimes I just want to check the C4 section real quick, then come back later to read the rest when I have more time. Unfortunately I lose the posts I was not able to read the first time. I also can not check the boards every day, although I try. :)

The motorcycle board I was a moderator on had it set up where all posts would remain unread until you actually read them. But I think the cookies for that were stored on the server itself and took up a lot of space. That may not be feasable on a board this size.
