cooling fan??

Welcome aboard

I have an 84 c4 vette , I was wondering if I bypassed the fan relay will I lose any hp???

First of all I see this is your first post so I want to WELCOME YOU TO CORVETTE ACTION CENTER we're glad you've decided to join us. Now for your question on by passing the fan relay would you lose any HP, since it is electric 12 volt I would not think so; but why do you see the need to do this? Do you want it to run all the time ;shrug or what? Do you have an overheating problem now?

Two things you may want to post in the new members section so everyone can welcome you to the group and you may get a better response posting this in the C-4 section.

Again welcome aboard :happyanim:

THANK YOU !! and yes the fan won't come on I've replaced the relay and still nothing .😕 the fan motor works great ! But it just won't kick on at the desired temp any ideas? Thanks again for the welcoming haha!!

thank you all for your help and support!! -TORCH

Thanks bill !, and yes my radiator cooling fan will not turn on:mad I've replaced the relay and still nothing it was a pre owned vette I'm gonna replace the sensor ,the problem may lie in the wiring :ugh Then if it doesn't work I'm going to bypass the relay:hb

You can't wire the fan control wire from the ECM directly to the fans.

Your choices are:
1) Trouble shoot the cooling fan circuitry per the Service Manual then fix the problem
2) Wire the load side of the relay to a switch which can handle the current and control the fans manually.

What is your desired temps'?
The fans are designed to come on between 220-230*F.

Are you boiling coolant over into the engine compartment, and is your temp gauge reading above 240*F or below 240*F? When does your vehicle over heat, at idle, freeway speeds or both?

Your best choice is #1 above. If you really want a switch, put one on the green/white wire to a good ground. This wire would be a low power connection, so you can use a small switch. This presumes you have confirmed the relay and the relay socket are okay. Do you have 12 v. on the red wire? Does the fan run when you jumper between the red wire and the red/black wire? Do you have 12 v. on the blue wire when the ignition is on?

There are lower temperature sensors available if that's what you are trying to do. Are you working with the correct sensor? It's the one in the passenger side head, between plugs 6 and 8.

(There is no connection to the ECM on an '84 Corvette.)

I have a question regarding the electric cooling fan on my '85 Corvette. I thought I'd ask in this forum first. My fan has always come on at 204 degrees and shut off at 196 degrees since I've owned it (2001). Now, for some reason it will come on at 204 degrees and it might just keep running or it might shut off at 180 degrees. Just today, when I started it at "LO" temperature after it sat all day, the fan came on. I turned the ignition on and off twice and it went off. I suspect that it's the sensor located on the right side of the engine block just behind the OIL dipstick, but I don't know for sure. If I let the fan continue to run all the time, will the fan motor me able to handle the load or will it burn out from over use? I don't know what quality these fan motors are.
