correct block dates for feb 63 car?

NCRS judging allows full credit for block casting dates up to six months prior to the car's assembly date, although two weeks to a month is the "norm".

John,on this note Is the date on the block supposed to match the one on the intake?

Nope, the casting dates on the intake don't have to match those on the block - in fact, they very rarely do; sometimes the pair of heads match each other, or are pretty close to each other, but only rarely do any of the other cast components ever match the block casting date. All that matters (for NCRS judging) is that none of the castings are dated more than six months prior to the car's assembly date.

Flint Engine built 6,000 engines every day, and that required about 45,000 raw castings every day from Saginaw Foundry (blocks, heads, intakes, water pumps, bellhousings, camshafts, etc.); they just used them as they arrived, and NOBODY paid any attention whatsoever to ANY casting dates unless machining disclosed a bad casting - then they used the casting date and pattern number to feed back to Saginaw for correction.
