Corvette as Daily Driver

Another newbie question here.

I intend to use my C6 Corvette as a daily driver. I am not concerned about depriciation. I am interested in feedback about reliability and maintinance costs. I will drive it about 14000 miles per year and keep it about 5 or 6 years.

P.S. Watched The 24 Hours of LeMans. Grinned alot. Especially at the end.

You will love every minute of driving it. It will last forever and not give you one single minute of trouble. It will never burn oil. It will never require the addition of any fluids. You will never have to add air to the tires. Insurance is unnecessary. You will be able to drive on the tank of gasoline that the dealer gives you without refilling for the first two years. You will be able to maintain an erection for four hours after (during?) driving it. It will never rain on it. Birds will never crap on it. You will be the hero to young boys lusting after it.

The Corvette will cost a little more to maintain as the parts for the Corvette cost more. A set of tires? Well more then it would cost for a Cobalt. How about a new alternator? Again, more then a Cavalier. I am not trying to scare you because if I could I would love to drive a C6 daily, but just trying to be a little more sensable then Dons. Look at the prices of a few parts that are normal to replace... like tires, batteries, and so on. Also, if you have to take the C6 to a repair shop, expect their labor wages to double *hehehe*

I have used a Corvette as a daily driver for the last 5 years. I had a 1997 that I drove for about 3 years, then I traded for my 2002 Z06, which I have used as my driver for two years. I drive it every day; it is the only car that I own. I drag race it and autocross it. Like the others said, it can cost more to operate. But it is a daily reward to drive that to work. It is comfortable and reliable. If you can afford it, GO FOR IT!

The C6 is a wonderful everyday driver and priced quite well to boot. I'd say the C6 costs about as much as an average mid luxury SUV.


The insurance is very reasonable and the gas mileage is impressive. I'd suggest considering the GMPP warranty for the projected mileage and years you own the car so you don't even have to worry about repairs. Its a couple of dollars well spent. I recommend Ken Fitchners Chevy for the GMPP warranty.

You don't have to have it so if your not a warranty type of person. Don't sweat it yet it does make the ownership experience a lot more fun. Just add gas and go...

Change the oil (70 dollars?) every 6K miles or so and your good to go.

Tires? You can always buy "like New" tires on the net for about 600 a set of four. They are always around give or take a few dollars ...and they last a long time dependant on how hard you drag the car etc...

Personally I think the C6 is the best daily driver you can choose. Its more refined as well as faster than the next best C5.

Lots of guys have them as daily drivers.

What would I choose? I'd go for the C6 Z51 speed manual and that would be on the car. I like silver or black in the C6 but again its a personal decision.

If you want an automatic, I'd seriously consider the 2006 C6 with the six speed automatic and again the Z51 suspension option.

Any other options would be again a personal choice.

JB pretty much said everything I was going to say.

Personally, I would have no problem using a C6 as a daily driver and if I could afford it, I'd go out and buy one right now and immediately start using it as my daily driver.

92 C4: 50,000 miles

94 C4: 34,000 miles

96 C4: 81,851 miles and still counting!

I probably am the exception. I have driven my Vettes as daily drivers since 1992. The 96 does get garaged during Jan and Feb. I had an extended warranty on the 96 only. Sure I have had repair issues. No more than on any other daily driver.

This is the only car that puts a **** eating grin on my face every time I drive it!

Your Vette should probably cause you less trouble than mine because of the increased quality control at Bowling Green and the increased technology used both in the car and while the car is built.

Before the factory warranty expires, buy an extended warranty and

ENJOY!!!

Don't listen to the people who think it is okay to drive a Corvette everyday :ugh , the Corvette should not be driven except on special events (I cannot think of any at this point that I would take mine out for).

No, the Corvette must be worshipped :BOW and admired but never driven. I wish I had one of those rotating display stands in my garage, I would sit there all day and watch it go round and round :cool , but never drive it (Heaven forbid). If I decide to drive mine, I check the weather forecast for at least 7 days in advance, if there is any chance of rain in those 7 days :cry even if I am only going out for an hour, I will not drive it, Corvettes are not meant to be driven in the rain for sure :ugh . As you can image I have had mine for sometime and only have 38 miles on it.

If you want a daily driver, I suggest you buy something like a Mazda :eyerole and if you feel sporty go for the Maita, but not a Corvette if you plan on driving it willy-nilly :W any time you want to, you are not worthy to drive a Corvette (as most of us are not worthy ;worship ).

So, if you should buy a C6 and decide to drive it everyday and I find out I will report you to Dave Hill and see what he thinks about you disgracing this fine automobile. Consider yourself fore warned!! :nono

Just kidding :L . The Corvette makes a great daily driver and makes the mundane exciting. My last C5 I drove the wheels off of it and never had any problems. The tires only last about 25,000 miles, less if you are real aggresive . That is the down side which does not out weigh the upside. Find the right one for you and enjoy, life is to short to drive boring cars.

Considering that owners of Ferraris rarely use their cars as daily drivers more often than not for fear of excrusiating (sp) maintaince costs....(no sh!t) and the fact the corvette offers performance equal to or better in many cases.....this question of what it costs to run a corvette is a valid one...


Really part of the beauty of the Corvette is that it offers supercar performance along with very low maintaince costs...(compared to other supercars to say the least)

Buy the Corvette with confidence that it won't drain your wallet if you use it every day...

It will drive like a nice commuting vehicle when you need it to and be a b@lls out sports car when you want that.

I commend people who use their Corvette's as daily drivers because they enjoy the car on a daily basis instead of that "special occassion." I drive mine everyday and I enjoy it everyday. That's what it's there for. Yes, you will be paying more to maintain it but I can assure you that it'll be worth it. The smiles that the car will bring to you daily will be worth it.

A C6 Corvette is also one of the safest cars on the road. Full metal cage under the body, great brakes, run flat tires, bright headlights, tight handling plus active handling and ABS, acceleration that will get you out of a jam quickly.


Well worth the extra money.

Well, for your information I actually drove the Vette this weekend, after I carefully checked the weather forecast and the pollen count (can't have pollen dust on the car, might damage the finish :ugh ) I drove for 22 miles . And I must say that I enjoyed it very much. Now the car is back in the garage safe and sound with no damage. I look forward to my next drive which could be as soon as next month!! . Now I do agree that the Miata is a girls car but I have heard that the turbocharged one is quite fast, I know for a fact that a 2005 GTO with the LS2 engine could not out run one that a friend of mine owns, now I am not saying that it could out run the Corvette C6 but it would probably give some C4 and C5 owners a scare.

Anyway, back to the original topic, I agree that the C6 will make a great daily driver, in fact I wish every C6 owner would drive and put a lot of miles on there cars, that way mine will be worth more money.

All my Vettes have been my daily driver since 1992(didn't even own a car until then). My current C6 has not given me a lick of trouble(the exception is the fuel sending unit card) and just turned 5300 on the clock. I bought this car to drive and that is what I do with it. You paid for it, drive it any way you want. MY MOTTO-Life is no dress rehearsal, enjoy it while you can.

Do it.. My 04 C5 is a DD 36K miles in the first 10 months..before this it was a 90 ZR1..My wife's C4 is her DD with 150K miles.
