Ok folks, I have one here that is driving us crazy. Have a 3844461 intake manifold. 327/350-365h.p. that "IS ORIGINAL" open plenum. Have seen tons of split plenums, but never on like this. We thought that is was a split that was machined. NOPE-all original. Does anyone know its application. Will be your life long friend and send you christmas cards. gmirk@yahoo.com

I believe you have an intake that had the divider milled out , and a good job of glass-peening and sand blasting to hide the alteration. I'm not aware of any GM intakes on production small block engines that were open.

You would be supprised at what can be done with the right sources. All it takes is money.

Nope....I have exactly this part on my car and thanks to the cast markings I know it#s an original 64 327/365....it is not "open". That seems to be a milled mod.

I haven't heard of different castings using the same number for the intake. I wouldn't believe the General spending money on a standard production part milling stuff away if it would have worked without.

It was a common practice to mill the divider out back in the late sixeties, that was the "hot" manifold back then. Who knows you may even have the one I milled out back then ;)

no 44461 manis were cast or installed by GM with missing plenums, but as all have said, quite common "performance" mod back in the day - requires some rejetting I believe - if you are ever lurking ebay looking to buy one of these SHP manis, you will soon notice that about 1 in 3 have had the plenum milled out some.

461 manifolds were all cast with the divider; many were modified by milling it out in search of more power. It gave a little more power at the top end by behaving more like a single-plane manifold at high rpm, but sacrificed low-end torque and throttle response as a result. Not a good mod except for a race car.
