I am looking at a what appears to be a very nice '94 but noticed that the footwell boxes have some cracks in the front corners (visible from the outside near the rocker panels). It doesn't look as if the car hit anything or bottemed out. I am new to the corvette world but am very interested in this car, is this a common problem? Is it something to worry about? Are there any other things I should look closely at?

The car is in great condition and has relatively low miles (51,000), they are asking $11,900 for it. From what I can tell that seems like a pretty fair price. Any thoughts on the price would help?

Thanks,

The cracks in the footwell are common. It's usually from somebody trying to lift the car wrong. It's repairable but you must remove the carpeting first. Your looking at 3 or 4 hours of driveway time, IF its bad enough to worry about. It's not really a structural issue.

also, $11,900 isnt bad for that car, but its not a smoking hot deal either.
My decision would depend on the RPO codes, records etc. Is it a "vette guy" or dealer ?

The car is at a dealer, he said it was a local trade. He is a "higher end" reputable used car dealer - if there is such a thing. The car is pretty basic - the only visible options are power seats and Bose w/ CD. Does not have sport seats or the changable suspension (Z07?), glass top only, it is a 6 spd though. Where would i look for the RPO codes? Sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Thanks

RPO codes are in the console for a coupe I think, and in the rear storage area for a roadster.

check for Z51, Z52 (suspension) also J55 brakes and other options.
Look in the model center on this site for a list of most of the codes.

use this thread as well.

Too many people put the floor jack too far under the car when they jacked a C4 - cracking the foot well. So, it's common on C4 but it shouldn't be.

RPO codes on the C4 were either under the console lid or under the rear compartment lid - depends on year -- I've found the both places.
In 94, the 'fast' suspension was Z07 (adjustable suspension package) - that would have included J55 (big brakes) and FX3 (selective ride control) but it could have FX3 separately. Does it have the adjustable shock setting switch on the console behind the shifter? FX3 shocks are nice but expensive to replace and the actuators are even more expensive. Sometimes FX3 cars were converted to standard non-adjustable shocks.
UJ6 (low tire pressure warning) is another option to look for. If it was on the car, does it still work? Sensors are discontinued and hard to find.

I'm with JimBob on this price wise. Low mileage C4 in good condition and with certain options ought to bring prices in this range.

Let us know what you find.

If you go to have the floor fix or if you are doing it yourself make sure to use an epoxy resin not a polyester resin. I prefer mat rather than cloth. Jack

and a mask if your going to cut out the cracks !

I inhaled enough fiberglass to cough up a surfboard when I did it. :puke

I'm guessing that cracked footwells have less to do with improper jack placement than the nature of the car itself: the floor pans from the seats forward are fiberglass, and when you're out driving they bear the brunt of everything that comes your way: rocks, speedbumps, logs, traffic cones, etc. It's very common that the footwells become cracked, one should almost expect them to be, even with the protective piece of metal that is riveted into place. Jack placement is almost idiot proof, you'd have to be a complete moron to misplace a jack, look under the car and the frame rail is right there big as life.

This is a fairly easy repair, and one that should be done unless you like driving in the rain and getting your carpet soaking wet.
