IS THE CRANE BLUEPRINT CAM A GOOD CAM FOR MY L-48?

IT HAS A 0.50 IN DURATION , LIFT 222 ON THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST, VALVE LIFT .447 INTAKE AND EXHAUST.

I had a erson cam installed in my L-48. It was one step above stock. The car had a noticable difference in power. The engine blew 6 mnths latr. The problem is an engine wears together. Over a certain amount of mileage its not good to change. I was doing a high speed run with the old T-400 tranny. 5500 rpms was too much for the engine. CLANKING. I think the crank bearings went. When I drained the oil it came out silverish.
 
I was planning to rebuild my engine anyway and I will also use modified valve springs, better intake, dyno headers, aluminium pulleys and dual exhausts front to rear.

That's a good cam it’s pn 967601 ... but quite outdated technology ... & it’s only a slight step up from stock L48 cam. BTW, Crane blueprint pn 968711 is a virtual copy of what came in your L48. I suggest a dual-pattern hydraulic flat tappet cam such as Crane Powermax

I bought a new GM Goodwrench engine. I then installed the summit K1103 cam. The engine should put out 250hp but it revs like a L-48, it drops off after 4000rpms. I was thinking of changing the heads and cam soon.

That sounds like what I've dropped in my L81 (formerly known as a 2040 CompuCam). It's definately improved power at mid to top end over the standard cam. It seemed to lose a bit of "Ooomph" at low rpms but adjustments to the spark advance have brought the low end power back. Can't give any dyno figures, this is all seat of the pants stuff, but I'm happy with it. It's definately not a cam to use if you want max power, but for giving a bit more fun at the mid & top end (the std cam used to pull well from low revs & then just "died" just after the mid-range) it's a good 'un. The beauty of it for me is that it keeps manifold vacuum high at idle so the computer is happy with it & fuel mileage hasn't suffered by fitting it. From the general "feel" of the motor I reckon that the cam will give some more if I swap the heads to better flowing ones & increase the CR (it's hard to describe, but the engine feels exactly like another type of smog engine I play with in that the power is there, but restrictive heads & low CR are locking it away). Oh yes, I'm also running 1.52 roller tipped rockers with it.
