This isn't exactly a C1/C2 question, but my '62 has a crate 350, with 330 cam. What's the "proper" dwell angle and timing specs? As best I can remember, the "manual" points setting is .018", start up, then set the dwell, then the timing.

Set dwell first at 30*, then set the timing (vac advance disconnected and plugged); 10*-14* BTDC is a good starting point, but you need to determine how much centrifugal advance the distributor is providing, when it starts, and when it's fully advanced. You don't want any more than 34*-36* total timing (initial plus full centrifugal, vac advance disconnected); a good curve to start with has 24* in the distributor, all in by 3000 rpm, and 10*-12* initial. Your vacuum advance unit should be connected to full manifold vacuum (NOT "ported" vacuum), and it needs to be matched to your idle vacuum characteristics - how much vacuum are you pulling at idle?

Thanks, JohnZ. I haven't hooked up any analysis equipment yet; just getting the basics down. It's been about 30 years since I tuned a Chevy V-8, so I'm very rusty! I'll get back to you after the weekend!
