dash kit or restore

I posted this on tech, figure I'd run it by over here too. My 92 has a pretty worn out interior, mostly the plastic carpet. I'm thinking of either restoring the major plastic pieces or getting a dash kit to cover them. Does anybody have any experience with these. I was thinking of either black carbon fiber or a very dark wood. It would cost about $300.00 to do it which is what the shifter console lid alone costs. Restoring would be very labor intensive but I could do it. Opinions please.

I meant plastic parts and carpet. Dash kits come in wood veneers or carbon fiber veneers. They attach to the interior pieces with special double sided tape. The other route would be to remove all the pieces and restore them with paint made for them. VERY labor intensive.

Though it is labor intensive, I would go with the restoration. IMO, going with the double sided tape route is just a lazy way to cover up damage and you won't be satisfied with the end result because you just did a patch job on the interior.

True, but I do like the wood look. right now it's weatherstrip time, and I'm farming that out to a good bodyshop. can't wait to see what that costs.

Probably $800 in weatherstripping alone and then $65-90 an hour for labor. :cry

Thankfully we know a good body shop. They can get me the weatherstrip wholesale and put it in for less than most places. Good bar customer. Not all of it needs to be replaced. Some can be fixed up with a little silicone. Think its time to start taking some pics of it.
